Montecristo Pepe Mendez Pilotico is a very special cigar that honors the history of collaboration between the Mendez family, a family of renowned tobacco farmers in the Dominican Republic for three generations, and Altadis U.S.A.'s Grupo de Maestros. It is said that Pepe Mendez brought tobacco seeds in his suitcase when he left Cuba in the 60s and established himself in Dominican Republic's fertile Cibao Valley. Those seeds have now given birth to the rare "Pilotico" tobacco, a leaf that provides rich, bold, and elegant flavors and is only available in this cigar. The wrapper is Ecuadorian, with a Dominican binder and fillers from Nicaragua and Dominican Republic. The cigars are packaged in beautiful, handcrafted suitcase boxes.

Mexican tobacco is very dark and the best leaves can be used as maduro wrappers. In San Andres de Tuxtla (in the state of Vera Cruz), there is a very interesting production of Sumatra seed wrappers. Dark air cured tobaccos are produced in Mexico, mainly in Vera Cruz and Tampico provinces, on the East Coast along the Gulf. There is also some production in Yucatan. Mexico's volcanic soil yields tobacco that is spicy and earthy, with a very distinctive flavor.
