When it was first released in 2015, the Crowned Heads Blood Medicine was an event only cigar. After a named change and several blend iterations, this popular yet hard to get cigar has been cast to a wider range of tobacco shops, but as a limited edition cigar. The cigar gets its name from an alcohol and opium based elixir called Blood Medicine that was supposed to cure what ails you. The drug manufacturer that produced the “medicine” was located in what is now a historic building that was built in the late 1800s and located in Nashville, Tennessee. Nashville is known as the “Music City,” but it also is home to Crowned Heads cigars. The Crowned Heads Blood Medicine cigars are handmade at the TacaNicsa factory in Nicaragua.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

Ecuadorian Habano
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuadorian Habano wrapper has become one of the most used cigar wrappers in the market. Grown primarily by the Oliva family, this tobacco originated from Habano or H2000 seeds brought to Ecuador from Cuba. This leaf is rich and flavorful thanks to the temperate climate of Ecuador and the quality of its volcanic soil.

Ecuadorian Connecticut
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Due to almost permanent cloudy skies, which provide a natural shade, Ecuador is the ideal place to grow Connecticut shade tobacco. The cloud cover allows the tobacco to grown without shade cloths, which reduces its production costs. Ecuadorian Connecticut shade grown is typically used for wrappers and binders.

Nice smoke, but didn’t knock my socks off. Earthy wood flavors with small hints of chocolate. Tasty, but didn’t get much transition as the flavor pretty much stayed the same

Not sure what the hype is about. The cigar was boring and flavorless for the first 2/3s , then in the final third has some mild flavors nothing special and quickly became to hot to smoke anymore. Disappointed

I'm smoking this one as I write this. Really lovely presentation all around. I'd say it's closer to a medium than full body, which I prefer. I definitely get the earthy tones which I tend to gravitate towards. Taste is good but not great. I feel like there's something lacking in the overall flavor profile, but I can't put my finger on it. Reasonably priced. Overall, I'd give it a B+.
