The Rocky Patel Emerald, released in late 2024, is a box-pressed gem that delivers a smooth, sophisticated smoking experience with broad appeal. Handcrafted at Rocky Patel’s Tabacalera Villa Cuba S.A. (TAVICUSA) in Estelí, Nicaragua, this cigar leans toward the lighter side of medium-bodied, offering an ideal entry point for newer smokers while still satisfying seasoned palates. Wrapped in a silky Ecuadorian Habano leaf and constructed with dual binders from Nicaragua and Mexico, the Emerald offers a refined flavor journey. Expect a harmonious blend of natural sweetness, baking spices, leather, and a touch of pepper, with evolving complexity from first draw to final ash.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuadorian Habano wrapper has become one of the most used cigar wrappers in the market. Grown primarily by the Oliva family, this tobacco originated from Habano or H2000 seeds brought to Ecuador from Cuba. This leaf is rich and flavorful thanks to the temperate climate of Ecuador and the quality of its volcanic soil.

Mexico
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Mexican tobacco is primarily grown in the San Andres region due to its volcanic soil. It has a very distinctive flavor with a spicy and earthy profile. As a binder it adds to the cigar’s overall flavor.
Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Full flavor, that’s for sure, just not one that I like. Maybe I just have an aversion to Rockys. This is probably the fifth (and last) RP blend that I’ve had and the results are always similar. Harsh and difficult to finish. Don’t rely on me though, I might just have an anti Rocky gene like the one that makes some people think cilantro tastes like soap.

Decent cigar. Charred woods and Honduran earth dominate, with red pepper, roasted salted walnuts and cashews and dark cocoa. Secondary flavor of raisins, clove, dried red cherry, nutmeg, leather and minerals.

Picked this one up for St Patty's with its presentation evocative of the Emerald Isle. Great draw and a mostly consistent burn. Spicy smoky and earthy and landed at medium to medium full for me. Very enjoyable smoke overall.

The newest line from Rocky Patel cigars debuts an Ecuadorian habano wrapper over binders from Mexico and Nicaragua and fillers from Nicaragua making for one hell of a cigar. The first thing that caught my eye with this cigar was the bright green color they chose to dress this cigar with. After that caught my interest the price made it a sure deal for me to give it a try. The cigar has an Ecuadorian Habano leaf which for whoever knows me knows is my favorite wrapper. The cigar tasted amazing and burnt beautifully, I am not the biggest fan of Rocky Patel cigars but this one was the one for me. Notes of sweetness and woodiness start immediately with a touch of spice that fades away after the first half inch. I paired this with a coconut water which seems like a strange combination but just typing this is making me want to have that pairing again. Its a medium bodied cigar that is so smooth that even a mild smoker will enjoy this cigar without being overwhelmed while still having so much complexity and flavors that full bodied smokers will also never get bored of it. This was a pleasant surprise and I will definitely be smoking more of this in the future.
