The term 'Sobremesa' refers to the moment after a meal when everyone is finished dining but has yet to rise from the table. Needless to say, this is the perfect time to light up a cigar and indulge in a nice drink and some good conversation. Enter Sobremesa. Created by Steve Saka of Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust, Sobremesa is made at the Joya de Nicaragua factory in Esteli, Nicaragua and features a dark Ecuadorian Habano wrapper on top of a Mexican binder and Nicaraguan and Pennsylvania Broadleaf filler. Medium to full-bodied, Sobremesa isn't meant only for the occasion from which it gets its name, but rather, anytime you crave a rich, hearty and complex smoke.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuadorian Habano wrapper has become one of the most used cigar wrappers in the market. Grown primarily by the Oliva family, this tobacco originated from Habano or H2000 seeds brought to Ecuador from Cuba. This leaf is rich and flavorful thanks to the temperate climate of Ecuador and the quality of its volcanic soil.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Mexican tobacco is primarily grown in the San Andres region due to its volcanic soil. It has a very distinctive flavor with a spicy and earthy profile. As a binder it adds to the cigar’s overall flavor.

Another great cigar by DTT! Draw was a little tight, but the cigar performed great. Perfect burn and construction. Flavors started off with notes of leather, fruit, charred wood, dark cherry and some cocoa. Spice was there but wasn't overpowering. Flavors didn't change much most of the smoke, except the cocoa flavors ramped up more. It got a little earthy towards the end, but flavors maintained very well and consistent throughout the whole smoke. Medium strength. Perfect cigar to start off the CNY holidays!

Burn was good requiring almost no touch ups draw was a little snug but some of that is probably from ring guage. Flavors for me were not great coffee heavy earth and walnut. The walnut also came with that astringent cotton mouth type feel you get from raw walnuts or very unripe fruit wasn't a fan of that at all and for the price I won't be repeating this blend

Firm construction, nice veining on the oily wrapper, easy open draw with a very even burn and no touchups needed. Medium to full bodied with tons of thick, rich blue-gray smoke output and flavors of woodsy cedar, strong black coffee and a nice lip and tongue tingling peppery spice. A nice cigar!

A complex blend here, folks. Fans of the Sobremesa Solita should be prepared for a bit more oomph of flavour. Lots of flavours: creamy espresso, roasted nuts, and a beautifully sweet retrohale with slight pepper. Medium strength cigars don't usually have this kind of profile. That's what's intriguing about this cigar. Really deserves full attention. Couldn't stop taking draws from it. Much more complex than Blue or Wagashi.

I really want to like this cigar .. I really do, but I just don't think it's "all the rage." As a big maduro fan and avid cigar smoker (faves include Padron 1926, Plasencia Alma Fuerte, El Rey Del Mundo, AVO Nicaragua, Rocky Patel Decade, Liga No. 10, New World Dorado, EP Carrillo Pledge/Allegiance, etc.) in comparison to the aforementioned smokes, this cigar fizzles every time (have tried it multiple times). The smoke output is rather light and the draw is always a bit snug, but the aroma is certainly nice, it's a pretty looking stick, and the taste is nice too if you can get a good puff. Overall however, I'd go with something else for the price point.

An attractive and well built cigar with a somewhat firm draw and consistent burn. Not as strong as I was expecting but a solid medium creamy smoke with nutty notes that lasted me a good hour n half. While I prefer the mi querida this was another solid Steve saka offering that has me interested in sampling more of his stuff.

I’m a big fan of things that clash and contrast. It is why the Sobremesa El Americano’s elegantly minimalist band and foot band contrasting against the cigar’s muscular, dark, oily Ecuadorian Habano wrapper got my attention. The wrapper was a bit veiny, and its construction felt firm. Prior to lighting, the body and foot had a barnyard and earthy aroma with an underlying tobacco sweetness. Upon lighting the draw was tight, but I gave the body a little massage as I rolled the cigar in my fingers and let it burn a little. I did not get much flavor from the first couple of puffs, but the warm earthy and barnyard aroma was present. However, the draw did get looser, and a nice tobacco sweetness revealed itself. This profile stayed pretty much the same throughout the first third. In the second third, some spicy notes accompanied the tobacco flavor. A strong peppery sensation greeted me when I did a retro hale. Surprisingly, the finish was thick and creamy with hints of spice. The profile didn’t change in the final third, but the barnyard and earthy aroma receded. Strength wise, this stick flexed towards the strong side, but it was not overpowering. If you’re a Sobremesa fan, you’re going to love it. If you haven’t tried one, I recommend it. The Sobremesa El Americano is best paired with a strong coffee or after a hearty steak dinner.

Been waiting to put this one in the air. Perfect Sunday morning smoke! Good looking cigar that had a perfect draw and gave off a ton of smoke. burn was decent. Required a couple touch ups but nothing crazy. Medium body and medium in strength. Started off a bit bland, but came to light after a few puffs about a half inch in. Good flavors of creamy cedar, coffee, with a nutty finish. Paired it with a black coffee. Highly recommend for those that like a medium cigar with good complex flavors.

These are a very enjoyable smoke, beautiful and nicely rolled. They produce a nice smoke cloud and have one of my favorite aromas of grilled buttery peaches. "Sobremesa" translates as the time after a nice afternoon meal when everyone is sitting back and digesting. One of my favorite times and places to smoke a good cigar with friends and apertifs.

Gorgeous looking stick, heavy and firmly packed. Pre-light draw: cocoa, dried fruit, generic sweet tobacco, barnyard. 1/3: cedar, pepper, black cherry, sweet fruitiness, charred wood, vanilla, leather, coffee, cured meat and earth. Lots of flavors going on in the initial third. 1 minor touch up required about 40 minutes in and the first ash followed shortly after. 2/3: cream, earth, wood, vanilla. Spice is gone. Some fruitiness and free bark round it out. 3/3: flavors become muddled a bold wood/leather took over. Complexity died way down. The beginning started out very promising and it was a bit of a let down from there. Was hoping for more considering who this is produced by. Still a pretty good stick and maybe needs more than a month humidor time but at $11, I’m not rushing back out to try it. Long smoke though, total smoke time was 1 hour and 40 minutes. Worth a single, not going to be a box purchase for me.

Pleasant enough, long smooth smoke. Very mild in flavor and body. I think the Mi Querida sister line has more flavor/pep. I am not dissapointed given the price but also not super impressed. It's an enjoyable, somewhat simple stick, gorgeous to look at. Not sure I would by more. The Mi Querida Ancho and the CAO Flathead V19 were both more memorable to me, at similar prices.
