Directly translated, 'Mi Querida' means 'my dearest'. Steve Saka chose this name for his preferred maduro blend - strong, flavorful Nicaraguan tobacco paired with an equally rich Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

USA Connecticut Broadleaf
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Connecticut Broadleaf is grown in the United States' Connecticut Valley and is prized for its dark, oily, full flavored and aromatic characteristics. The plants are grown in full sun giving this cigar wrapper its characteristic sweetness. The Connecticut Broadleaf plant leaves are mainly processed as maduro tobacco. Today, Connecticut Broadleaf seeds are being grown in other countries besides the United States.
Binder
Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

I stumbled across Mi Querida when I was looking for a more-economical version of the great experiences that I had with Liga Privada No 9 and T52, which also happen to have Steve Saka’s fingerprints on them. A solid, round stick with a sturdy wrapper. Minimal veins. Great construction. Simple, classy, thin band. Spice. Hay. Rich, dark coffee. Raisins. Walnuts. Pie crust. Full body. Excellent draw. Good burn (1 touchup). Medium-to-full strength (I can taste the tingly nicotine on my lips). Long finish. Complex - through the 1st and 2nd third. Less-complex as I transitioned to the final third, which was pepper-centric.

This one is not very complex but that's not necessarily a bad thing. At first, the draw was a little too tight for me but it resolved itself rather quickly. I realize it's a short stick, but this one seems to be burning rather quickly. The flavor is wood and nuts with a little spice that builds as you make your way through the experience. Surprisingly, not much chocolate though. I tried this one because Saka is the man and it's not bad at all but it's not something I'll be stocking up on.

Attractive cigar that has a full, tight pack. Draw was a bit tight but a draw tool helped by pulling a bit of leaf from the center of the stick. Full flavor throughout but nothing too spicy but the pepper is definitely there. Final third really ramped up the dark, toasty notes with red pepper and dark chocolate/espresso on the retrohale. Nice smoking experience but I doubt that I would buy this one again.

I am obsessed with this little cigar. 4 inches only, but packed with only good flavors, I’ve been smoking mi querida gordita almost every other day for the last month and has yet to disappoint me. Medium to full in strength the cigar is very earthy with red pepper tones from the beginning till the nub. Dark chocolate notes start dancing around the second third but just as a complement of the earthiness and the pepper. At this point the pepper is just a secondary source and chocolate and coffee beans come forward, this is the moment I want to eat instead of smoke this cigar. The last third is glorious, it is all about flavors: the pepper still there but not as predominant as it was, the chocolate, earth and coffee flavors melt together and there is some zesty or flower notes lingering around. I can only think and how much I love this cigar and how being so small is such a satisfying smoke… Nice burn, firm ash, no draw issues. A 45-minute smoke that you are going to love. I'm a Steve Saka fan and love both lines of Mi Querida, Triqui Traca 648 is an amazing smoke but from the regular line Gordita its the best and more flavorful size. I paired it with a cup of hibiscus flowers tea and it was delicious.

Solid Saka Smoke. Good draw with slight resistance. Mice even burn all the way up with no touch ups needed. Lots of smoke output. Peppery kick the mellows out to nice semi bitter chocolate taste. Getting into the final third it ramped up the flavor and strength to a good balanced leather and pepper that wasn’t overwhelming. Was very good with a black coffee. Very nice cigar. The Mi Querida in Ancho Largo was similar for me as the other vitolas. Earthy flavor profile is perfect for me, but I have no luck with the burn. This sort of ruins the experience a bit, and I would suggest dry boxing for at least 24 hours before smoking.

Steve Saka/Dunbarton blends really appeal to my palette; I thoroughly enjoy [nearly] everything he makes. Mi Querida is currently #3 on my list of Saka cigars and, even in that position it is still a no-brainer box-buy. For my palette it is only bested by Sobremesa and Sin Compromiso. The Mi Querida is a cigar I can always grab and know that I’m about to enjoy my next 1 1/2 hours.

Cold draw: Didn’t get much off it, some faint chocolate and cream. 1/3: Pepper, cream, malts, espresso, nuts, chocolate. Very smooth and subdued flavors. Nothing standing out much more than the other. 2/3: salty, very mild pepper, coffee, cream and earth. 3/3: Cream, earth, cocoa and malts. Flavors in this stick were very hard to detect. At times it was almost tasteless. With that said, construction was top notch. Perfect draw and razor sharp burn. Produced lots of smoke. This was not a bad cigar, but I was expecting more. Final smoke time was 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Smoked about half a box so far. These are quite good, but the flavor is very heavy, earth dominated. It is a great flavor and aroma though. Also note - had 2 with tight draws requiring poking out of around 10, so minus a point there. For those of you who like me want big maduro full flavor cigars, but want some lighter sweeter flavors, I would recommend the Partagas Black or Oliva V which are similar value and a bit lighter on the palate. This are definitely great and a good change of pace, but don't think I will buy many boxes of them.

this is great everyday smoke if you like good solid flavor . good pull, nice dark notes yet not overpowering or bitter maybe even flowery at some points. great towards the end - you will light another

Surprisingly great stick, especially for the price. I'd say it's a little less complex than the Liga T52 or UF-13/UF-4 blends, but at the price it is a great value. Cold draw was pure chocolate biscuit. Burn and flavor was consistent to the nub -- a powdery cocoa and chocolate character -- and I even may have smoked it too fast considering how good it was. Will definitely either buy more or try other vitolas. Can't believe I hadn't heard of these until now.

I got one based on Shelly’s review of it...and she was so right! I caught just a hint of chocolate on the first third of the way followed by some pepper and then some notes of coffee. A good smoke with a Crown Royal Vanilla.

I may not be able to pronounce this cigar correctly lol, but I can certainly attest to the impeccable smoking experience I incurred! I was very eager to try this cigar when I found out Steve Saka was involved. Upon first glance of this cigar, you see a very simple banding but a gorgeous oily, dark chocolate Connecticit Broadleaf wrapper! It is wrapped over all Nicaraguan tobaccos for the filler and binder. A firm roll with a perfect draw and burn--great output of smoke also. Upon first light, a delicious chocolate sweetness is upfront, slowly joined by some pepper--a great play between the two. The ash was very strong. Into the second third, I feel like the intensity got a bit weaker but not the flavor. Earthy and creaminess come into action as well as some coffee notes. The pepper and sweetness are still acting together which makes for a great balance! Into the final third, the strength amps back up, the sweetness definitely fading. I found this cigar to be very complex--definitely kept my interest from start to finish. Now I know what all the hype has been in regards to this cigar....a definite must try for a fuller bodied cigar! Enjoy.
