The New World Puro Especial is a 100% Nicaraguan cigar made by AJ Fernandez featuring tobacco cultivated from Fernandez's different farms located across Esteli, all of which have been aged three to five years. This Nicaraguan puro comes available in three sizes and provides a slightly lighter, smoother finish than the original New World cigar released in 2014. Medium to full-bodied, notes of almonds, dried fruit, and sweet caramel combine to make this a worthy and welcome addition to the acclaimed New World family.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

Nicaraguan Criollo
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Nicaraguan cigar wrappers are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Wrappers grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro wrappers are all produced in Nicaragua.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
The Esteli region of Nicaragua is well-regarded for producing some of the finest tobacco in the world. Tobacco grown in this area is valued for its aroma, flavor, and strength.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

Fantastic smoke. Excellent in every way. Dark oily wrapper, perfect draw, burns evenly . Pre light you can tell there’s a cocoa sweetness to it. Full and robust from the first puff. Very creamy, earthy, cocoa and nutty flavours that blend well and mellow out the more you smoke it. Very surprised how good it was. Better than some $20+ smokes that I have had.

I loved this smoke. You know you a cigar is for you when the smoke becomes an experience…and that’s what this was. Wonderful smell and aroma, easy light and great burn. The draw is just short of being tight so it encourages long, deep puffs that releases the smell and taste. Despite the variety of flavours, it blends together beautifully and tasted closer to a medium body stick, so well balanced it was. A box-worthy purchase, much as a lot of products from Senõr Fernandez are.

The mildest AJ I've smoked but still tasty with notes of cocoa and dried fruit. Fairly firm but consistent draw and excellent burn throughout. Slight pepper undertones on back half. Can't go wrong with AJ.

picked this AJ Fernandez New World Puro Especial Toro 6 1/2 x 52 after it aged in my humidor for 15 months. A straight cut enables a delicious cold draw of chocolate. The wrapper is a rich dark brown, double capped, moderately veined and very well built, with almost no toothiness. The flavors are very good and include cedar, cocoa, baking spices, and white pepper with a lingering finish and slight sweetness. The ash is stacked and white, with a titled burn line that hangs on to the ash all day. A firm and friendly draw delivers ample portions of white wispy smoke. The cigar suddenly went out at the 35 minute mark but a quick relight brought the party back, after which the burn remained excellent. Flavors have broadened and mellowed a bit in the middle, adding a nice fuller finish and a touch of smoked hickory. Long 100 minutes of enjoyment to get to the final inch of this super all-around New World Puro Especial Toro 6 1/2 x 52.

The New World Puro Especial by AJ Fernandez has a beautiful look to it. The way the red colors on the band merge with the dark Habano wrapper caught my attention right away. The wrapper, binder, and filler all come from different farms in order to provide different aspects to the cigar in terms of flavor, aroma and mineral qualities. All of these components have been aged three to five years, featuring 100% Nicaraguan tobacco. The pre-light draw brings more of those dark earthy notes with some stone fruit sweetness. Retrohaling is where spice is found in both black pepper and spicy cedar. Construction was perfect, which is an AJ Fernandez trademark. The finish remains the same, with lingering earthy minerals and dry wood. I found it to be a very enjoyable cigar that didn’t get boring at any point despite the lack of change along the way. One of the best AJF cigars I’ve ever had!

Beautiful cigar that burned nicely. Only took a couple points away due to a weird period about halfway through where I got a tarry/mineral like taste (without presence of tar). It went away after a new cut and a few draws. Overall pretty good but not worth the extra $$$ vs the regular New World.
