AVO cigars are handmade by renowned cigar master Hendrik Kelner in the Dominican Republic. Consisting of some of the highest grade tobacco available, AVO exudes luxury with the specially fermented Piloto Cubano used as the filler, and premium Olor binder from the Villa Gonzalez region. The true USA Connecticut Shade wrapper is light but flavorful, and allows the cigar to maintain a super smooth mild-bodied profile that can be enjoyed at any time of day.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
The Dominican Republic is the world's first producer of cigars. Most factories are located in Santiago, in the center of the island, and in close proximity to the tobacco fields grown in the fertile Cibao Valley. While tobacco and cigars have always traditionally been produced in the Dominican Republic, many Cuban cigar makers established in the Dominican Republic after the Cuban communist revolution, elevating the quality of Dominican cigars.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Natural wrapper, also known as Colorado Claro, is light brown in color.

Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuador is the perfect place to grow wrappers, because it is located on the Equator! And it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the wrapper plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. This climate allows tobacco growers to grow Connecticut-seed wrapper in the shade without shade cloths, resulting in more economical wrapper.

Olor
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Olor is a variety of Dominican cigar tobacco known for its awesome aroma, excellent burn, and versatility as a filler or binder.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

Construction felt a bit squishy and it had a pretty loose draw, but still burned nicely with lots of fragrant smoke and tight darker gray ash. Flavors included raisin-like sweetness, clove/cinnamon spices and black pepper that pretty much intensified a bit as I smoked it down to the nub. A nice Saturday evening smoke.

AVO Classic No 2 needs no introduction and should be in every mans humidor. Smooth clean appearance with the rich smell of Dominican tobacco. First light proves to be a perfect draw that I have come to expect with the line. Light creamy, some nutty flavor along with coco or coffee. These flavors seem to hang on all the way through. I tent to give an extra cut about 3/4 way through to freshen up the cigar.

When given this opportunity of doing a cigar review I wanted to start with something new to me. I had 5 to choose from and the AVO Classic Robusto jumped at me. Due to the lightly tanned aged Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper and elegant light colored band, I felt compelled and excited to give it a try. Once removed from the cellophane, the aroma from the cigar had a great smooth aged tobacco smell. I used my trusted Colibri V-cut and the draw was perfect with little resistance. After toasting the foot and taking the first puff, the cigar had a very smooth and smoke that tasted a lot like graham crackers. These flavors continued for about a inch and then changed to freshly toasted bread and lasted for the first half of the cigar. After passing the half way point, there was another change in taste. Now it has switched to freshly brewed coffee and some hints of caramel on the finish which lasted long in between puffs, sometimes longer than 5 minutes. Having really been enjoying this blend so far, the flavors changed yet again (which at this point, I’m thinking I need to buy a box of these ASAP). This time it went back to the nuttiness but had a slight maple flavor that lasted til my fingers started to burn with the tiny nub I had left. I must say, I was very shocked with this cigar by how smooth the flavors transitioned from one to another. I never had any issues with burn nor draw and the retro-hale was smooth with a slight pepper until the end. I highly recommend this complex mild - medium cigar to be paired with a morning coffee, whiskey or scotch.

One of the very first cigars I had when I started in the 1990s. Fabulous construction. Even burn. Great draw. The body is a little heavier when Avo changed up the formulation a few years ago, but still a terrific stick. Proof a cigar doesn't need to be super-bold to be flavorful.

On a scale of cigar "strength" of 1-5, I like cigars in the 2-3 1/2 range. This one fits perfectly. Although I like both cigars that smoke differently in each third, this one has a similar taste and feel all the way through. It is closer to a "2" on the stregnth scale. It won't overpower your cognac. Given its size, make the time to smoke it at a slower pace and you'll aprreciate it more. It does have a different character than the #2 natural but I don't know it that has to do with lot variation. Regardless, a nice smoke to cozy up to. I'm going to make this a regular in my humidor.

The AVO Natural is a wonderful medium strength cigar. Very well made with good draw allowing full smoke to ease through the stick. The taste and aroma were both big pluses. The cream melts with the cocoa to come off as milk chocolate. The base flavors continued throughout the smoke with little complexity-no other flavors were tasted. Not confused with “simple” tasting cigars because the flavors were robust and very pleasing but didn’t change from foot to cap. A perfect cigar for someone looking to step up from a milder smoke without getting smoked themselves. Finish was tasty and pleasant.
