Oliva cigars is one of the few cigar manufacturers today that despite obtaining the highest ratings on their cigars continues to create fairly priced cigars with an excellent quality. In other words, you will not find an overpriced Oliva cigar. The Oliva Connecticut Reserve has been blended from Nicaraguan long fillers and binder and finished with only the finest Ecuador Connecticut wrapper.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Claro wrapper is light, yellowish brown in color.

Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuador is the perfect place to grow wrappers, because it is located on the Equator! And it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the wrapper plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. This climate allows tobacco growers to grow Connecticut-seed wrapper in the shade without shade cloths, resulting in more economical wrapper.

Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

Oliva Cigar Company is Nicaragua's second largest grower of tobacco and one of the largest cigarmakers in the world. It all started in 1886 when Melanio Oliva first grew tobacco in Cuba. In 1995, his grandson Gilberto Oliva would launch the Oliva cigar brand, produced in Esteli, Nicaragua. The company's flagship brand, Oliva Serie V, has obtained some of the highest ratings in cigar publications worldwide. Their cigars use mostly tobacco harvested by the company in their various farms in Nicaragua.

Bought this mainly as a gift and for myself for a included cigar cutter. DO NOT BUY THIS FOR THE CUTTER! It's worthly and the biggest p.o.c. cutter! Both were faulty. One was not even welded together properly from the factory and the other barley opens and operates well. Stick with a $6 plastic is better than this utter garbage. P.s. the cigars are fine smokers.

When in San Antonio I bought one of these cigars in a store because I was familiar with the Oliva name. I enjoyed it so much that I bought a box upon returning home. They are a mid cigar and fairly long burning. They burn evenly and are an enjoyable smoke. I plan to buy more because I like them so much.

This was a really good Connecticut cigar, I had floral, vanilla, leather and sweet toasted bread notes, with nutty aromas from the smoke. Some slight spice at the start and near the end. The construction and burn was perfect. Not the creamiest texture but still plenty of smoke output. Overall, a very good cigar for its price!

Sometimes we don't have too much time to smoke a nice cigar, it’s one of the reasons why I always have with me a petit corona. The Oliva Connecticut Reserve Petit Corona is a mild, short panatela that is handmade in Nicaragua. Its Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper with a Nicaraguan binder and filler has an open draw with a creamy and woody flavor. When I began to smoke it, I tasted notes of cedar and earth. The retro-hale of the cigar offered spice, but there was a sweet finish to the cigar after pushing the smoke through my nostrils. In the second third, the earthiness was the primary taste. In the last third of the Oliva Connecticut Reserve, the cedar and spice notes remained strong on the retro-hale and aroma with a subtle sweetness. For having a short size, this cigar had a nice strong ash with a smooth draw. For all those reasons, it didn’t surprise me that in 2014 the Connecticut Reserve received a 91 Rating from Cigar Snob magazine. Enjoy!

You just can not go wrong when buying Oliva cigars. These are on the mild side so if you want mediums or stronger you will have to pick something other than these. There are some consistency issues across this sampler. The best performer was the Connecticut. They all had fairly decent flavor, but burn and draw wasn’t consistent throughout. That’s why a sampler is a good value. You learn a lot. Oliva’s are good I’ll try a similar sampler in robusto next time. I’m a torpedo fan. I feel it a shape that can go a long way in maximizing flavor or expressing shortcomings in a cigar.

Ok I admit it, I'm a cigar snob. I have a selective selection of Cuban and non Cuban cigars in my humidor that I love smoking and tend not to deviate too much. Having said that the Oliva Serie V, in my opinion, is one of the best non Cuban cigars out there. With this is mind I decided to go out of my comfort zone and try the Oliva four pack sampler. Packaging: simply first class. Neptune Cigars did an awesome job ensuring my cigars arrived undamaged and as fresh as possible; Thank You! Oliva Serie G: first of all its allergy season where I'm from, and I'm suffering from its effects, which perhaps may have altered my taste buds. Appearance wise the Serie G looked great. A beautiful dark wrapper with very little veins. Taste wise this is definitely a mild-medium body cigar. I found the taste stayed consistent throughout the entire smoke. The cigar had a good ash and even burn. I was deeply impressed that it didn't require any touch ups considering I was golfing on a windy day. Overall impression: I found the taste very one dimensional; just average from start to finish until it got bitter as I approached the nub; nothing spectacular. My rating of this cigar: 2 stars. Oliva Serie O: a much better smoke compared to the Serie G. I was initially disappointed that the ash didn't hold like many good cigars, namely falling off around the three quarters of an inch mark. After about ten minutes into the smoke this cigar gives off an incredible aroma which is very pleasing. About the half way mark the smoke gets thicker and left very good after taste in my palate. One big draw back to this cigar is that it required constant touch ups. More so as I got closer to the band. As I like to smoke my cigars down to the nub, the constant touch ups just left a bitter taste in my mouth, and it was time to retire this cigar. Overall, a decent smoke with a good price point making this a decent-good cigar for every day occasions. My rating for this cigar: 3 stars. O

Perhaps my taste has changed. I've smoked this cigar for years, but this box of cigars has a different flavor that is not consistent with previous cigars. Not bad but not great.

I got this stick in a sampler. Very nice smoke with medium body. The burn and draw was good for 1st half and then it got a little uneaven and tight. Light sweetnes for me in the beging with some cream. It finished a little peppery at the end. I would smoke it again for sure. Mabey in a robusto or corona.
