The Angel Cuesta cigar brand was crafted to pay tribute to Angel LaMadrid Cuesta, an early 20th century cigar crafter from Spain. Angel and Peregrino Rey’s (his business partner) cigars were held in high esteem by King Alfonso XIII of Spain. Soon Cuesta was given the title of “Tobacco Purveyor for the Spanish King and Court.” The Angel Cuesta cigars feature a lush Ecuadorian Habano wrapper placed over premium filler leaves from three undisclosed countries. They are well-regarded for their superb construction and rich complexity. Only a select team of two highly skilled rollers are allowed to craft these exceptional cigars, which are handmade at J.C. Newman’s El Reloj cigar factory in Tampa, Florida. The Angel Cuesta is a century old brand that is still making history and will continue to do so for years to come. Be part of it!
Cigar Origin
USA
Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Production of cigars in the United States, once a thriving industry, is now mainly machine made cigars. They are still being produced in the last remaining cigar factory from the 1890s, the JC Newman Cigar factory in Tampa. However, in recent years boutique brands have flourished and are being handmade by select rollers in Miami, Florida.

The J.C. Newman Yagua is a uniquely shaped cigar that is made using an age-old but rare rolling method. It was brought back by Lazaro Lopez, who is the general manager of Newan’s Puros de Estelí Nicaragua S.A, aka PENSA factory. The cigars are rolled using an under fermented (wet) wrapper. Once rolled, the cigars are wrapped and tightly bound by a leaf from the Yagua tree, aka Cuban Royal Palm. This rolling method was used by Lopez’s grandfather for his own private blend in Cuba many decades ago. This non-traditional process allows the cigars to develop their own unique shape and the wet leaf adds to the cigar’s strength and flavor profile. The J.C. Newman Yagua is available in singles and boxes. If you purchase the box, the cigars are wrapped in a bundle using the Yagua leaf prior to boxing.
Cigar Origin
Nicaragua
Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Wrapper Color
Maduro

Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).
Wrapper
USA Connecticut Broadleaf
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Connecticut Broadleaf is grown in the United States' Connecticut Valley and is prized for its dark, oily, full flavored and aromatic characteristics. The plants are grown in full sun giving this cigar wrapper its characteristic sweetness. The Connecticut Broadleaf plant leaves are mainly processed as maduro tobacco. Today, Connecticut Broadleaf seeds are being grown in other countries besides the United States.
Binder
Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.
Filler
Nicaragua
Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

LeRoy Neiman was a celebrated American artist. He was best known for his vividly colored expressionist paintings of sports figures, sporting events, musicians, and celebrities. LeRoy was very fond of cigars, and he often painted while enjoying a cigar. As a warm tribute to Neiman and his passion for painting and smoking cigars, the J.C. Newman Cigar Co. and in collaboration with the LeRoy Neiman and the Janet Byrne Neiman Foundation created the LeRoy Neiman 2023 Collector's Edition cigar. This limited-edition toro sports a gorgeous, red-hued Havana Rosado wrapper expertly placed over a Florida Sun Grown binder and carefully aged filler leaves from Nicaragua and the USA. The cigars are expertly hand crafted at the historic El Reloj cigar factory, which is owned by J.C. Newman and located in Tampa, Florida. The cigars come adorned in a specially designed band. The inside of the box features an authentic lithograph of the “Irish-American Bar,” which was painted by Leroy in 1978. The bottom of each box is a print that depicts the paint-splattered floor of Neiman’s apartment in New York City. All profits made from the sale of the cigars will go to the support of arts education in public schools in Tampa, Florida.

Ecuador is the perfect place to grow wrappers, because it is located on the Equator! And it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the wrapper plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. Ecuador supplies Connecticut and Sumatra type wrappers to many cigar factory in the world.
