This medium bodied, delightful smoke has an earthy sweetness and creamy profile. This version of the storied H. Upmann cigar has been blended and manufactured by AJ Fernandez in Nicaragua for Altadis USA. The brand uses an Ecuador Sumatra wrapper with a Nicaraguan Corojo 99 binder and Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Natural wrapper, also known as Colorado Claro, is light brown in color.

Ecuadorian Sumatra-Seed
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuador is the perfect place to grow wrappers, because it is located on the Equator! And it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the wrapper plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. Ecuador supplies Connecticut and Sumatra type wrappers to many cigar factory in the world.
Binder
Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Dominican Republic
Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.
Filler (or “tripa” in Spanish) is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar. The Dominican Republic is considered one of the most premier tobacco growing countries in the world. The filler tobacco grown in this Caribbean island nation ranges from mild to full bodied. Olor Dominicano and Piloto Cubano are the main types of tobacco grown in the Dominican Republic.

Well, maybe e expected more from AJF on an Upman, but at first i was a bit disappointed. However its quite a good medium cigar at a fair price, right for the early afternoon at the beach or while having a walk. The middle part offers its best flavour and it wont get bitter. So you could just walk on without a beer or a scotch :) Quite enjoyable, i would consider buying more maybe.

On the first draw there is a definite zing that lingers. Notes of hay, tobacco. I thought that this cigar was going to be boring but about an inch in the up front zing has subsided and now lives in the finish. Smoke has gotten much creamier with flavours of light cedar and dry tobacco. Great construction and an easy draw with good smoke output. Very punchy retrohale. Pretty good smoke, not my cup of tea, but a good smoke all the same!

This cigar started out rich and hearty with notes of cedar, cream, dried fruit, chocolate, and red pepper. Much like the Hoyo la Amistad, the red pepper overtook the other flavors and relegated them to the background, which was unfortunate because the palate for the first inch of this cigar was perfect. It's still a good stick, and I'd definitely have it again.

Crafted by AJ Fernandez, this cigar gives you everything a medium body smoker is looking for. From the start, I found a nice earthy flavor. Nothing too overwhelming. It had a nice aroma to it. The burn was good. What I enjoyed was that the cigar was consistent. The flavor did not change. For the smokers looking for consistency and great flavor, you will enjoy this great medium body cigar.

The first puff or two I was hit with an unexpected boldness and was dazzled by the aroma. I admired the chocolate brown wrapper and the nearly perfect draw. The presentation of this cigar alone is outstanding. Then I began to be hit with what I consider an earthy hazelnut flavor with a creamy smooth undertone. Getting to the middle of this cigar I was getting bits of creamy notes that were full of flavor. Even when the cigar’s bold qualities would creep up I was surprised by the smooth draw of the cigar. I thoroughly enjoyed this cigar and the finish. I recommend this to all my customers looking for a great medium bodied smoke.

Started out with earth and a lot of peppar. A couple of cm in the peppar faded out and it took on a more ceder flavor, with a nutty finish. Hints of orangepeel also came around sometimes. Draw was perfect and the burn was good, although it had a bit of a wonky burn towards the end, but nothing major to complain about.

There's no doubt AJ Fernandez is the hottest cigar blender right now. Every blend is different than the previous and each line has his own personalized flavor profile. This cigar is a complete change from the traditional H Upman cigar, the bright colors in the packaging have been designed to attract a younger audience and a more modern smoker. Flavor wise this cigar is a gem, coffee and cedar are the predominant notes with a subtle nuttiness in the retrohale and a hint of spice. Medium to full in strength and flawless construction, solid ash, easy draw. The price point of an everyday smoke with the quality of a high end cigar...what else can one ask?
