Asylum 13 Ogre is a barber pole cigar that uses Candela wrapper and Habano Maduro wrapper. As with other Asylum 13 Cigars, the Ogre offers the palate rich caramel and espresso tones and roasted nut flavor. They come in boxes of 50 and have a very attractive price point.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Some cigars have two different wrappers that are placed in a decorative manner, such as the barber pole or pinstripe cigar.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Nicaraguan cigar wrappers are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Wrappers grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro wrappers are all produced in Nicaragua.

Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

It’s a beautiful cigar. The draw was great, and the burn was acceptable. As far as taste and aroma… it was disappointing to say the least. I’d compare the taste to dirty grass and the aroma to an old ashtray. I’ve heard rave reviews of this one and maybe mine was a fluke, but I’m staying away from this one.

Another disappointment in my foray into larger cigars. While it looks pretty in the humidor it soon developed cracks in the wrapper not long after lighting. Uneven burn requiring frequent correction. Taste and aroma was non existent (even with a pairing of an 18 year old scotch couldn't breath any life into it). Will probably leave the other one in the humidor for show.

While certainly a dandy of a cigar do not attempt to smoke it in a single sitting. I made that mistake and wound up sitting there for a good 3.5 hours. Due to its size the draw was a little constricted but was easily fixed with a draw enhancement tool. Due to not trying to kill myself this chingadera had to be lit a few times but for the most part stayed lit in between puffs. The aroma was not bad. Real subtle notes of leather with a really nice slight peppery taste. Paired really well with a Modelo Beer and some el pastor tacos. Definitely buying this sucker again.

Love these, a couple hours spent with a medium strength cigar. Draw can sometimes be a little tight but not usually overly so. Can leave an aftertaste, but not unpleasant...no matter how well stored sometimes can be "dry", must be the tobacco blend. Fine these tastier than the ordinary 13, more kick than a corojo alternative (which I also llike a lot)

This cigar is a beauty. I thought the draw would be tight with a cigar this big. One small punch hole gives you all the smoke you need. Do not smoke on an empty stomach with this long lasting cigar. Plan for at least 3 hours. The cigar does not burn evenly. The wrapping flakes off after a while which is normal after holding it for a long time. The taste is great and changes from beginning to end. Great cigar overall.

The Asylum 13 Ogre is moving up to my top 5 cigars. I love the appearance of the cigar. I use the star cut, which to me allows the cigar and most cigars to burn evenly and it also allows for an easy drawback. The taste is light, not that heavy on the pallate.

I had a blast with the 7" Asylum 13 Ogre last night. They were a surprisingly good smoke. Bought them for the photo opportunity as a gag and we enjoyed smoking them for over two hours! I would rate them a 4 out 5, great flavor on the medium to mild side with just a touch of sweetness in there. Did not leave my mouth tasting like an ashtray! Over all good aroma. We used a straight cut off the back and were careful not to chop too much off. Draw on this monster is tough, takes some getting used to such a large cigar. Glad I didn't get the 8" version.

I bought this for it's appearance, staff was excellent in pointing out why it had two colors on it. Great taste, aroma and burn. It had plenty of smoke. Have been buying these reguraly since. Only had a problem with one of them so far, it canoed on me.

started smoking these cigars 12 1/2 months ago and just love them, don't let the size put you off trying these cigars, these cigars always have a fantastic draw with plenty of smoke I love the taste of these cigars and enjoy them very much, as I have stated before about big rings cigars this is a 'man's man's' cigar and you will need plenty of time to smoke it, I usually sit back with my favourite whiskey and draw the smoke in deep, I have given some of these cigars to friends and at first they think the cigar is to big and have a little bit of a laugh but once they start smoking this awesome cigar they change their minds and tell me what an excellent smoke it is. Well thanks for reading and if you get these cigars hope you enjoy them!

Solid cigar. Purchased it just to try something new. Burns very nice and has a fantastic smooth draw. Definitely stronger than I expected, but it was a very pleasurable smoke. Will be purchasing more.

Fantastic cigar for the money, it's construction rivals even the nicest Cohiba's. Burns like a dream and the draw requires little effort. The taste is excellent if you like caramel and white pepper. It's a bit more full body than than it say's but I like it! The only drawback is it just takes too long to enjoy the whole cigar at once, you gotta spread it out a bit...

I wasn't sure what to expect with this cigar as I bought it on a whim. The construction was excellent, it smelled great and looked awesome. It had a nice even burn, great draw and a lots of thick creamy smoke. I'll probably pick these up again.

Very well made cigar...Nice easy draw, and burns beautifully. Dense smoke and rich flavors kind of make you light headed after smoking one of these. On my list to re-order for sure!

Skeptical to buy this cigar. I like the look of a barber pole so I decided to pick up from local cigar shop. Impressed with the burn and draw.

One word to describe this cigar. Deceiving. I say this because it appears as just a novelty smoke. This is an outstanding cigar at a very affordable price. The aroma of the smoke was very creamy with a hint spice and chocolate. The taste was much of the same with some grassy notes coming out in the Cameroon wrapper and hints of leather when you get to the darker part. The draw was very easy and comfortable. The burn was pretty even with only a couple of touch ups over the entire two hour smoke. That's the only quandary of this behemoth, you have to set aside at least a couple of hours to smoke the entire cigar. Overall this cigar rates about an 8 out of 10. I would recommend this stick anyone who wants a great cigar to sit back and relax with. It's also a fantastic conversation piece as well on the golf course!
