AVO XO Intermezzo Tubo 5 * 50, Box of 20

Famed jazz musician turned celebrated cigar crafter, Avo Uvezian created the AVO XO to celebrate the smoother, mellower side of cigars. Made of tobacco that has been aged for six years, the AVO XO sports an Ecuadorian wrapper with a binder and filler from the Dominican Republic to create a medium-bodied smoking experience. Rich notes of wood, spice, and fruit are harmoniously joined to make the AVO XO a very memorable cigar.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
The Dominican Republic is the world's first producer of cigars. Most factories are located in Santiago, in the center of the island, and in close proximity to the tobacco fields grown in the fertile Cibao Valley. While tobacco and cigars have always traditionally been produced in the Dominican Republic, many Cuban cigar makers established in the Dominican Republic after the Cuban communist revolution, elevating the quality of Dominican cigars.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.

Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuador is the perfect place to grow wrappers, because it is located on the Equator! And it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the wrapper plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. This climate allows tobacco growers to grow Connecticut-seed wrapper in the shade without shade cloths, resulting in more economical wrapper.
Sungrown
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Sungrown cigar wrappers come from tobacco plants that are grown directly under the sun without the use of man made tents to give shade as in Shade grown wrappers. As opposed to the Shade grown plants, sun grown tobacco plants grown thicker leaves with thicker veins and darker color. Sungrown wrappers can be appreciated for their rich taste and sweet undertones.

Dominican Republic
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Dominican Republic is a traditional tobacco-growing country. In the 60's, a Cuban seed was introduced and the resulting tobacco, called Piloto Cubano, became famous as a good substitute of the Cuban tobacco that was no longer allowed to enter the USA. Piloto Cubano is full bodied while the Dominican Olor tobacco is milder but more aromatic.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.
Filler (or “tripa” in Spanish) is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar. The Dominican Republic is considered one of the most premier tobacco growing countries in the world. The filler tobacco grown in this Caribbean island nation ranges from mild to full bodied. Olor Dominicano and Piloto Cubano are the main types of tobacco grown in the Dominican Republic.

If I would have reviewed this after the first one I smoked it would have been 5 stars, but the second one from this order had issues and finished poorly. Having said that, this is a very affordable Davidoff and usually very consistent. This was the first ultra premium cigar I ever smoked 20 years ago, so kind of nostalgic for me. Good value!

Construction: beautifully rolled with a soft tan wrapper, clear caps nice smoke output and thick creamy mouthfeel. Great burn and fair ash. Prelight: sweet and slightly sweaty leather & straw on band Soft dusty books and dry oak on foot and same for cold draw plus a hint of caramel. 1st woody oak and vanilla. Lingering white pepper with a spectrum of wood notes from sappy to dry and floral. 2nd it gets a bit toasty then settles again into wood and spices with a good serving of nuts. 3rd: herbal charring like roasting fennel seeds and burning pepper.
