The Room 101 Anniversary cigar was created to celebrate the founding of this boutique premium cigar brand. Founded in 2003, by Matt Booth, a former U.S. Marine and jeweler, Room 101 started out as a small little-known brand with a cult-like following that quickly sky-rocketed to rock star status. To celebrate its founding, Room 101 had none other than AJ Fernandez blend and make this flavorful and potent commemorative stick. The Room 101 Anniversary cigar is hand crafted at the Tabacalera Fernandez Factory in Esteli, Nicaragua.

The Room 101 Daruma was an instant hit among premium boutique cigar fans when it was first released in 2012. Now it’s back! If in name only. This Daruma is a wholly re-imagined, re-engineered version of the original. While the original was composed of a four-nation blend, “the rumor” is that this Daruma is a full-bodied Nicaraguan puro from filler to wrapper. According to Matt Booth, Room 101 brand founder, “... just as goals change and times change, Daruma has evolved.” and he invites aficionados to “Light up a Daruma and celebrate how far you come and set a course for your next big adventure.”

The iconic Johnny Tobacconaut cigar brand was first released in 2015. Loosely based on the Johnny Appleseed legend, Room 101’s Johnny is a fun-loving, cigar smoking spaceman who travels from planet to planet to spread the word about premium cigars. The Johnny Tobacconaut cigars were released in limited quantities and were sought after by its devoted fanbase. After a deep-space, cryogenic hiatus, Johnny Tobacconaut is back as a regular release. But with a whole new blend and being made by master cigar crafter AJ Fernandez and using AJ’s own tobaccos.

Originally released in 2011, the Namakubi cigar had a successful run until it went on hiatus in 2017. In 2021, it returned as a limited-edition cigar and has been coming back ever since. The Namakubi cigar is named after the Samurai tradition of bringing the freshly severed head of a defeated rival Samuri clan leader to the winning clan’s leader. While not as ghastly, each Namakubi cigar presents you with the best tobacco leaves in the industry. And it offers a smoking experience that while you won’t lose your head over it, it will definitely please your palate.

Wrapper Color
Claro
Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Claro wrapper is light, yellowish brown in color.
Wrapper
Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuador is the perfect place to grow wrappers, because it is located on the Equator! And it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the wrapper plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. This climate allows tobacco growers to grow Connecticut-seed wrapper in the shade without shade cloths, resulting in more economical wrapper.
Binder

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.

In 2018, Matt Booth, founder of Room 101, launched The Farce. It was his first release after a sojourn, albeit brief from crafting cigars. The Room 101 The Farce Nicaragua is an all-Nicaraguan tobacco version of this sought after cigar with a cult-like following. It is a medium to full-bodied puro that sports a savory maduro wrapper. The cigars are handmade in Nicaragua.
Cigar Origin
Nicaragua
Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

In 2017, Room 101 released the popular Hit and Run line, which was a collaboration between Matt Booth of Room 101 and Robert Caldwell of Caldwell Cigars (two well-known boutique cigar crafters). The Hit and Run Redux is a re-engineered version of the original, and it features a Mexican San Andres maduro wrapper cloaking an Ecuadorian Sumatra binder and a filler made of USA Pennsylvania and Nicaraguan Criollo ’98 leaves. According to Matt Booth, the cigar’s profile is “sophisticated with depth and transition.” Like the original Hit and Run, the Redux cigar is handmade at the Tabacalera William Ventura factory in the Dominican Republic.
