Stealth and strength. A mystery to explain. How can something born of such raw power be so nuanced? A hearty Nicaraguan puro wrapped in the oily, unfermented Habano Oscuro leaf. A full body through and through, somehow cloaked in creaminess. A coiled tail and clawed foot pay homage to its namesake... the Chupa Cabra.
Cigar Origin
Nicaragua
Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

The Esteban Carreras Cigar Co. is a boutique cigar company. They are known for crafting premium cigars by using a wide variety of wrappers, shapes and sizes. And giving them clever and unusual names. Their Devil’s Hand cigar is no exception. This delicious Nicaraguan puro features an oily, mouthwatering Corojo maduro wrapper and it is packed with tobaccos from this Central American country’s prime tobacco growing regions. When lit, the Devil’s Hand offers a flavorful, medium to full-bodied smoking experience. The Devil’s Hand is the first time Esteban Carreras has used Corojo tobacco in one of its cigars. The cigar got its curious name from the premium Corojo seeds that were smuggled out of Cuba. The “devil” being Fidel Castro and his government.

Corojo
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Corojo wrapper was first developed in Cuba in the 1930s and quickly became popular as the wrapper on some of the best cigars. By the end of the 90s, Cuba stopped growing Corojo wrapper because of its susceptibility to pests and diseases. Ironically, Corojo wrapper has since become more popular outside of Cuba, as it has been replicated in tobacco farms in Nicaragua, Honduras, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic.

First released in 2022, the Esteban Carreras Devil's Hand Maduro is the second release of this brand with an interesting back story. In Cuba during the 1990s, Gonzalo Puentes, the Minister of Tobacco, was in charge of improving the disease-prone Corojo tobacco. To accomplish his task, Puentes used the positive selection method, which involved taking the best seeds, regenerating them, and finally taking the best seeds from the best plants. However, these “positive seeds” were smuggled out of Cuba and end up in tobacco-growing countries such as Ecuador and Nicaragua. The “negative” or bad seeds were left in Cuba and in the hands of the Devil, a.k.a. Fidel Castro. The cigars feature a savory Ecuadorian Corojo maduro wrapper that expertly covers a binder and filler made of premium Nicaraguan tobacco. To enhance its flavor profile, the cigar’s delicious wrapper was aged for two years prior to rolling.

Wrapper
Ecuadorian Corojo
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuadorian Corojo features the spicy bite of standard Corojo with the added smoothness found in Ecuadorian tobacco. Typically dark brown in color, Ecuadorian Corojo is one of the most flavorful wrappers available, and often has an oily sheen with minimal veins.
Maduro
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Featuring the darkest color found in cigar wrappers, maduro leaves are dark brown to almost black in color, and come from the primings furthest up on the plant. Having seen more sun, maduro wrappers tend to be richer and contain more nicotine than their lighter counterparts. Although somewhat intimidating in appearance, do not assume that all maduros are super strong - many can be milder than other types of wrappers, as well as naturally sweeter.
