First made in 1910, the American is made of 100% American tobacco from wrapper to filler, and it is hand rolled in Newman’s El Reloj factory located in Tampa, Florida. Think of it as an American puro. The American sports a Florida Sun grown wrapper that is draped over a Connecticut broadleaf binder, which houses USA Connecticut and USA Pennsylvania long-filler tobaccos. They are still being produced in the last remaining cigar factory from the 1890s, the JC Newman Cigar factory in Tampa. Connecticut tobacco is golden brown with a mild to medium flavor. It is mainly grown under shade in the Connecticut River Valley or sun grown in Ecuador.

Broadleaf tobacco leaves are known for being large, resilient, thick, and sweetness. Ideally, they are used in the production of maduro cigars and primarily used as wrappers, but they add dimension to a cigar’s flavor profile when used as a binder.
