In 2014, Matt Booth, the founder of Room 101 cigars, released The Big Payback cigar brand. It was dedicated to the customers, retailers and everyone involved in helping the brand grow. The Room 101 The Big Payback Nicaragua continues the tradition. This full-bodied Nicaraguan puro features a savory, dark chocolatey maduro wrapper that cloaks a binder and filler made of premium Nicaraguan tobaccos. Plus, as with the previous releases, The Big Payback Nicaragua is offered at a very wallet-friendly price. The cigars are handmade in Nicaragua at the Joya De Nicaragua factory.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Nicaraguan cigar wrappers are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Wrappers grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro wrappers are all produced in Nicaragua.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

The term “big payback,” is usually associated with someone seeking revenge. Not so with Matt Booth the man behind Room 101 Cigars. In 2014, Booth released The Big Payback as a way to repay a debt of gratitude to the people who helped him build his popular brand, namely the farmers, cigar crafters, retailers, and fans of Room 101. In 2022, he launched The Big Payback Nicaragua to celebrate the fine tobacco that comes from Nicaragua. Upon close inspection, this Nicaraguan puro’s dark chocolatey maduro wrapper had a rustic salt of the earth appearance. The cigar was firm with a little give. I picked up a grassy aroma from its foot and body. The cold draw was effortless. The first few puffs were a bit bitter, but once this toro got underway it settled into a mellow tobacco sweetness with hints of dark chocolate and spice. The retro-hale delivered a blast of pepper, which practically cleared my sinus, but it was manageable. However, the finish was thick and creamy. The ash leaned towards the dark side, and the smoke output was wispy with a blue tinge. The draw was all flow no hassle. The spice tapered down, and an earthy aroma revealed itself in the second third. The ash turned whiter as the smoke progressed. By the final third, the tobacco sweetness took center stage accompanied by faint notes of spice. As for strength, this toro started out medium and crept its way to strong, but it wasn’t overpowering. Overall, this is an excellent smoke that should be part of every aficionado’s regular rotation, and it is offered at a gratifying, wallet-friendly price. I paired it with lemon-flavored sparkling water, but you can pair it with anything. So, enjoy!
