Robert Holt owner for Southern Draw Cigars wanted to create a cigar to honor his wife Sharon. The Rose of Sharon is a “…celebration of grace and the devotion of Sharon Holt as she continues her daily service via strong faith and daily fellowship,” according to Holt. Handmade in Nicaragua by Tabacalera Fernandez Cigars, the Rose of Sharon is a semi-box pressed cigar that features an elegant Ecuadorian Sun-grown Connecticut wrapper, and Nicaraguan binder, and Nicaraguan Viso/Seco tobacco fillers. A mild-strength cigar, the Rose of Sharon by Southern Draw is perfect as a morning smoke.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuador is the perfect place to grow wrappers, because it is located on the Equator! And it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the wrapper plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. Ecuador supplies Connecticut and Sumatra type wrappers to many cigar factory in the world.

Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Dominican Republic
Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.
Filler (or “tripa” in Spanish) is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar. The Dominican Republic is considered one of the most premier tobacco growing countries in the world. The filler tobacco grown in this Caribbean island nation ranges from mild to full bodied. Olor Dominicano and Piloto Cubano are the main types of tobacco grown in the Dominican Republic.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

The first half was great. Mild, sweet, wood, tea and floral notes. Surprisingly spicy but it got better a while later. Very pleasant, almost as good as the Brulee Blue! Draw was a bit tight, but construction was good considering the vitola. I didn't like the last third of the cigar though, bitter and harsh flavors, with the cigar getting hot too.

This is a very well constructed cigar. The Connecticut Shade wrapper is silky smooth in appearance. It has a very unique flavor profile. This is one of the best cigars with a true Connecticut Shade wrapper (I personally like Ecuadorian CT Shade better). The overall profile is nutty, bready, and creamy with a light honey sweetness. It has a flavor that reminds me of a bowl of cereal. I highly recommend if you are a fan of light to medium cigars.

my first lancero! Greeted by elegant dual pink, gold and black bands with sleek gold embossed lettering and adorning filigree accents. I personally appreciated the "Soli Deo Gloria" acknowledgement. The wrapper was akin to suede in texture and hue. Delightfully uniform with non-existent seams and minimal veining, bound by a pigtail cap. Five stars! straight cut. the closed foot made light-up a breeze and left me taken back by the effortless draw. it was...dare I say: too easy. the experience was similar to sipping smoke through a boba straw (thankfully no bubbles). This remained throughout without any hindrance: a fun five stars! The burnline lazily swayed along and self-corrected it's minimal meandering. the ash yielded loose pillow stacks that leaped off on their own accord. deciding how to rate, left me debating if I should break the notes into the typical thirds or to go with sixteenths considering the length of this thing! settled on simply enjoying as a unified journey. the flavor profile showcased dollops of velvety cream with floral potpourri nuances reminiscent of rose; leaving me wondering if that was due to it's namesake. Cutting the sweetness was a zesty red pepper spice, and a bed of clay/earth rounding it out. the retrohale left me smelling coffee grounds and tasting clove. at the halfway point I had an odd silicone/rubber note as if I had a mouth guard in; thankfully THAT was fleeting! further along another peculiarity just south of the second band it.... abruptly...died? an intermission perhaps? confusingly I was consistently puffing until this point and suddenly it stopped burning altogether: full point deduction. Investigating the innards on relight it appears the binder tunneled past both wrapper and filler slightly. a full relight gave way to copious creamy plumes and we're back in business! overall this was fun and one i could easily see picking up again as well as recommending. you'll get density without a wallo

This was a tasty cigar, creamy throughout and a bit of cocoa at the final third. The actual cigar wrapper was in a terrible state though. Part missing at the foot, the cap was chipped then the cap split into bits during smoking. The band was also sub standard, poor quality and maybe some piece of old yellow price tag still stuck to it? Ash was creamy white at the start, then went dark grey into the final third. Smoke was plentiful, burn was uneven but not out of control. I would love to try this cigar again but the quality control measures before distribution need to be improved ?? I wanted to really enjoy this stick but the wrapper and cap just ruined the experience

Not quite like I thought this cigar would be. Excellent complex flavor. A little on the mild side, by the last third the southern draw improves. The only thing that lowers the rating with me, is that about half of the cigars have damaged or imperfect wapers. Maybe, just a bad box. Still very smokeable.

On my recent search for a wonderful Mild Cigar, I came across this beauty. The Southern Draw Rose of Sharon Toro, sporting an elegant gold and pink band. This cigar is hand-rolled at the AJ Fernandez Factory in Nicaragua and named after brand Co-owner Sharon Holt. The cigar has Dominican Piloto Cubano Ligero in the filler, a Nicaraguan binder, and an Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper. At first light, it absolutely blew me off my feet with how creamy it was from start to finish. Notes of cream, hay, nuts, vanilla and small amounts of pepper, but more than I am accustomed to in a Connecticut shade. The second third saw a small transition to a more woodsy/earthy note, but the final third saw that vanilla and cream come back, which was just superb. Draw was excellent and burn was nice. Aroma and taste were fantastic. This cigar wasn't just great, it is now going to be one that I always keep in my humidor at all times. This is my new favorite mild cigar and probably a cigar that I recommend to all new aficionados and experienced ones who still like a mild cigar with a morning coffee.

ok, first off I would like to thank Tim from Cigars Daily on youtube (if you don't know who that is check him out, he has excellent cigar information and tip) for giving this cigar as a recommendation. I'm not super good at describing flavor notes into coffee, chocolate, peppery, and things of that nature but what I DO know is that this a wonderful cigar. This is the first cigar I've tried from the Southern Draw brand and I'm hooked! The draw was just right not too loose or too tight. The construction was beautiful aside from so burn issues, I had to touch it up just once but then it corrected itself. The flavor was unique. It was a balance between a savory taste and nice spice but not overwhelming at all. the finish leaves a nice "nutty" taste but is very clean. I smoked this thing all the way down to a nub nearly burning my fingers off! Definitely will be buying if not a few boxes. enjoy!

This is such a smooth and creamy cigar. Leather, cream, and earth are dominant, the pepper is but a hint. This is definitely an after breakfast with a coffee smoke. My personal favorite time to have this is very early in the morning before the family wakes up. Strong hot coffee and a campfire at nautical twilight is my favorite pairing.

this rose of Sharon might end up on my favorites list. first inch has hints of popcorn. a lovely mild spice with notes of cinnamon. first half with floral notes and a white sugary type sweetness mixed with something like cookie dough/cake batter coming in notes. starting second third a flavor of dark black coffee comes into the profile. first Connecticut wrapped cigar iv ever had with any taste of coffee ?? incredibly nuanced cigar that is very difficult to properly review. mild to medium bodied cigar but really hits the spot with the Connecticut wrapper Ecuadorian binder and Nicaraguan and Dominican ligero long fillers.

Linear, mild, and boring, weaksauce flavor of bitter wood shaving, lite cream, and tobacco. Taste like a two dollar cigar. If I want mild cigar the Ashton Cabinet, Joya de Nicaragua Antano CT, and Arturo Fuente Natural Chateau are significantly more flavorful and superior in taste and complexity. This one is overly hyped and overpriced.

This cigar is rated crazy high and even though it was lighter than I normally smoke I thought I'd give it a try. Bottom line... I dont see get it. Yes it has flavor for a light Connecticut smoke but I did not find that flavor good or the whole cigar balanced. I'd rather have a Joya de Nicaragua Número Uno or Sobremesa Brulee for this type of smoke

When I punched this stick, it cracked pretty badly--not a great start. And the draw was fairly difficult. (These things could have been one-offs.) It burned evenly, without any need for touch-ups. The aroma was subtle, yet sophisticated--definitely an attention getter. The taste, although certainly not unpleasant, wasn't to my liking, but I'm a straight-liquor, black-coffee, IPA kind of guy. I intend to order a couple more of these for friends who like a more mild smoke.

construction wise this is as good as cigar as they come. smoking it was effortless and enjoyable. medium complexity, a little peppery, wood flavor, definitely more interesting than your average Connecticut cigar. I gave it three star rating on taste is purely subjective. it has a strong earthy flavor which my palate confused with a mild harshness and bitterness. in hindsight, I just don't like too much earthy flavor but that should not take anything away for those who enjoy that profile. also I had not the same problem with the other sizes. for optics this cigar will make you look very cool ??

LOTS of zing at first lingering for quite a bit of time. Easy draw with great smoke output. Even burn. Definitely a medium, may be the fuller side of medium. The initial zing has subsided going into the first third. There are notes of cedar and tobacco, maybe a slight citrus finish. Smooth creamy smoke, lots of body. In the second third the zing has returned slightly, but nothing like the first few draws. Smoke remains creamy with notes of cedar and leather. Into the final third flavours remain constant with a noticeable rich tobacco aroma coming off the foot and a return of some of the zing. Great smoke!

Pre-light draw: Cedar, wood, grass, peanut. 1/3: Red pepper, cedar, cream, nuttiness and hay with a hint of lemon zest. Smoke is pouring out of this toro. First ash drops a little over 20 minutes in. 2/3: Lots of nuttiness, pepper has disappeared, grass, hay and some cedar. Balanced and mild smoke. 2nd ash drop about 40 minutes in. 3/3: Some floral sweetness, nuts, wood. Flavors have remained pretty consistent. Only pepper was in the first initial inch. This stick has a razor sharp burn the entire way. A smooth, balanced and mild cigar that is definitely worth a try.

Bought on staff recommendation. Very attractive cigar, easy light, and a clean draw. It's a bit hot on the first third, and a little too peppery for my personal taste (but if you like that, you'll enjoy this cigar--it's not overpowering). The middle third revealed some fruit and cedar, and the smoke is light and almost sandalwoody. My only complaint is that this burned very quickly--about 45 minutes. Otherwise, I'd definitely buy again. A really nice mid-morning light/medium smoke.

I had the pleasure of smoking one of these a few days ago and WOW. Don't let the Connecticut wrapper fool you, this cigar has some really complex flavors, a great burn and I would say totally worth the price. I usually enjoy the bolder cigars but this was a real winner.

I was really drawn to this cigar because of its beautiful perfecto shape and the delicate golden brown wrapper which compliments nicely the design of the gold/pink band. The whole thing looks very elegant and I expected the experience to match up to the expectations. I believe the brand is named after Sharon Holt, who owns Southern Draw Cigars with her husband, Robert. The cigar is handrolled at the AJ Fernandez' factory in Nicaragua and only produced in small batches. All tobaccos in the blend are from Nicaragua with the exception of the wrapper which is Ecuador Connecticut seed. This cigar hit all the notes that I love: creamy, smooth, woody, nutty, with just a light pepper in a medium bodied, mild-medium strength smoke. Not a heavy smoke by any standards, yet very nice flavor and aroma. Draw and burn were beyond reproach. I recommend this excellent cigar to both new smokers and seasoned aficionados.
