Born out of the partnership between Rocky Patel and famous cigar maker Nestor Plasencia, the Edge is a beautifully made full bodied cigar wrapped in a corojo or maduro leaf. Although it comes with the warning, "for professional smokers only", do not hesitate to try this cigar if you're a novice.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Honduras, a Central American country which shares a border with Nicaragua, is widely known in the premium cigar industry as the ideal place to grow Cuban and Connecticut seed tobaccos. Danli and the Jamastran Valley is considered the heart of Honduras’ cigar industry. The Jamastran Valley is known for producing a full-bodied tobacco that draws strong comparisons to the tobacco grown in the Pinar del Rio region of Cuba. This same region is also known for its Connecticut shade grown and Corojo shade grown tobacco. In addition, Honduras produces Cuban-seed sun grown filler tobaccos of the highest quality.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

Honduran
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Honduran cigar wrapper has the reputation of great quality, with wrapper leaf being grown in the Jamastran, Talanga and San Agustin valleys. Some of the wrappers being grown in Honduras include Corojo, Honduran Claro, Honduran Criollo, Honduran Jamastran Viso Rosado, Honduran San Agustin Havana Seed and San Agustin Ligero.
Corojo
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Corojo wrapper was first developed in Cuba in the 1930s and quickly became popular as the wrapper on some of the best cigars. By the end of the 90s, Cuba stopped growing Corojo wrapper because of its susceptibility to pests and diseases. Ironically, Corojo wrapper has since become more popular outside of Cuba, as it has been replicated in tobacco farms in Nicaragua, Honduras, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic.

Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

Cedar and leather are the main flavors. I didn’t get near as much pepper as I anticipated, but I think I let it mellow out too long in the humidor.

Excellent appearance, no issues. 1T- Great draw, burn needs 2 touchups. Woody, cola, ginger notes with a light spice. 2T- Draw stays good, burn a little ragged but no touchups. Creamy, leathery, coffee notes. 3T- Draw still good, burn needed 1 touchup. Coffee, wood, cocoa, cinnamon notes. Some bitterness and pepper as we work our way to the end. Overall- Pleasant, mild/med, great draw, smells nice. Flavors are subtle but fine, nothing offensive. Burn needed some attention. 55 minute smoke time.

This one is just not for me. That's why I try to get a sample pack. I like the Rocky Patel Sub Grown Maduro, so I tried these. I only like the lightest shade wrapper. I think it was a Connecticut. I am not against strong cigars. I have a humidor full of them. These just left me flat. They are very plain looking. I had to touch up the burn, didn't like the taste. They aren't ALL gonna be winners boys.

Well worth a try. I preferred the smaller Vintage 1990 RPs in the past. Not a brand I jumped for but a friend recommended and I got a complimentary sampler thanks to Neptune's Smoke rings after being handed one by said friend. Interesting flavours. My process: 1. Smell the cigar 2. Cut and lip the tip 3. Dry puff taste 4. Roast the tip of the cigar, no direct flame. Light cigar and take a few initial puffs. Take it in. 5. Smoke cigar. 6. Reflect This cigar has a robust initial smell. Hearty. The tip is not sweet. There was no distinguishable taste on the dry puff but the draw was smooth. Half way through, the smoke was pleasant. Consistent draw, even burn, flavorful, and rich. Wrapper has a nice oily texture to it. By the end, flavor was noticeably more spicy and about an inch and a half from the end the smoke was noticeably hot. Overall, this cigar was VERY GOOD. I would buy it again. Personal rating system to determine if I will rebuy this cigar. awful--not good---fine/okay--good--((very good))--excellent

It is hard to quantify a ‘sampler pack’ with a single review, so my above scores reflect what I feel is an average. This sampler pack came packaged beautifully, with a Boveda pack sealed inside. However, the Boveda pack was rock solid, meaning it had been dried out for quite some time. I think the protective tubes did their job quite effectively though, because the cigars were still in relatively good shape. Overall, I would recommend these to a friend just for the sheer novelty aspect of them. Plus, cigars that come in their own tubing travel well, and what’s to stop someone from reusing those tubes?

unfortunately, the construction so far has not been great, and it's effecting the taste. Difficult to get a good even burn. Just when it gets a good, the burn requires a heavier draw to keep it lit. I've smoked two so far and it's not worked out well. Will keep the others in the humidor for a long time, and see if age will help.
