Oliva's Serie G is recognized as a tasty, dependable and affordable cigar that fits nicely into any time of day. The Serie G Maduro replaces the Cameroon leaf of the original with a dark and oily USA Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, bumping up the strength to a solid medium-bodied profile, while maintaining it's ultra smooth and creamy character provided by the premium Nicaraguan binder and filler. Notes of coffee, cocoa and cedar can be found inside this box-pressed beauty, and fortunately, this is one maduro cigar that won't potentially leave you feeling woozy afterward!

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

USA Connecticut Broadleaf
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Connecticut Broadleaf is grown in the United States' Connecticut Valley and is prized for its dark, oily, full flavored and aromatic characteristics. The plants are grown in full sun giving this cigar wrapper its characteristic sweetness. The Connecticut Broadleaf plant leaves are mainly processed as maduro tobacco. Today, Connecticut Broadleaf seeds are being grown in other countries besides the United States.
Binder
Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

Oliva Cigar Company is Nicaragua's second largest grower of tobacco and one of the largest cigarmakers in the world. It all started in 1886 when Melanio Oliva first grew tobacco in Cuba. In 1995, his grandson Gilberto Oliva would launch the Oliva cigar brand, produced in Esteli, Nicaragua. The company's flagship brand, Oliva Serie V, has obtained some of the highest ratings in cigar publications worldwide. Their cigars use mostly tobacco harvested by the company in their various farms in Nicaragua.

A decent little stick, but it didn't know what it wanted to be. First third started off great. Chocolate, cocoa, sweet flavors. Then second half became more savory, salty, meaty, harsh, and spicy. Finally in the last third, I got some chocolate fudge flavors, but spice ramped up even more. This might need more aging. Burn died on me like 3 times. Overall, it was an okay smoke, but I prefer the G Cameroon, that one truly smoked like a G. Solid medium strength.

Oliva Serie G Maduro Churchill. This is a 50x7 very sharp square box press. This cigar won't roll away. Wrapper is dark brown as expected from a Maduro. First puffs have a soft touch - a twinge but no bite, no pepper, a hint of fruity sweetness like Earl Gray Tea. The defining flavor that I realize from all Oliva cigars is what I call the "malty core". It's a bready, woody underlayer that supports any other flavor elements. True here as well and while not complex neither is it bland. Body and taste scale at medium. Flavors linger well on the palate. I get an image of an old, dried out cinnamon stick that still has flavor and a nip to it but is mostly stick. Through the middle it just keeps on keepin' on becoming softer, richer and pleasantly toasty. This is the sweet spot. Black coffee would be my ideal pairing. In the back third, even with the coffee I'm sipping, something minty creeps in, almost Wintergreen. Olivas are like old friends, always welcoming, never too challenging. You can coax an hour and a half from this vitola and still it's done too soon.

These, the cameroon version of the Special G, and the Fuente Short Story are my go-to smokes for a quick relaxation before work. Admittedly, it's my belief that the Serie G Maduro blend is best represented in the churchill form, so it does lose a few points in taste. While not as sweet as its larger brethren, it does showcase the deep woods aspect that the blend is famous for. Burn is almost always perfect, however as it's a short vitola, any unevenness is usually of little consequence. But where this guy really shines is value. Forty-eight in a box? Yes please.

Starts very smooth and draws nice. One down side is that when it gets to that best part of the stogie which is the last quarter of the stick, it loses its taste and becomes too spicy/bitter where you will start to generate a lot of Saliva to cool your mouth down. So if you are willing to ride that last part of the cigar (not me) then this is a good buy. Or it is a good buy for guests that are not really aficionados or if you wanted to light a stogie that you know you won’t finish due to time and can easily throw it away without any regret.

I’ve smoked many Serie G Maduro. This is why I decided to buy a box. So far I have smoked 6 of the box, and I’m a little disappointed. 2 of the 6 have been a lousy draw and have become unraveled. I’m not sure if it Oliva’s fault or Neptune’s. Possibly not properly humidified? I’m not sure of what to do on my next box purchase. This is my first box purchase from an online retailer. Thought I’d save a few bucks. Maybe I’ll stick with my local Brick and Mortar. The 8 pack sampler has been great so far, however the link to rate them does not work.

The Oliva Serie G Maduro was my first encounter with a box pressed cigar. Admittedly, it felt a little odd in my hand at first, but I quickly forgot about the different feel once I lit up my first. The aroma of this gem pleasantly entices your sense of smell with a not-too spicy aroma and just the right taste of chocolate. Burn is quite even and the draw exceptionally easy. These darlings should cost at least one and a half more than Neptune charges. Worth having as a regular in your humidor.

There are some consistency issues across this sampler. The best performer was the Connecticut. They all had fairly decent flavor, but burn and draw wasn’t consistent throughout. That’s why a sampler is a good value. You learn a lot. Oliva’s are good I’ll try a similar sampler in robusto next time. I’m a torpedo fan. I feel it a shape that can go a long way in maximizing flavor or expressing shortcomings in a cigar.

I enjoyed every stick in this sampler, my favorite being the Master Blends 3. I see many more Olivas in my future.

Nice cigar for a great price. Medium-full flavor with a decent draw and great burn. A little stronger than what I normally like, but I will make sure I have a few on hand for those times when I want some extra flavor or to pair with some strong cheese and crackers. Very nice!

This was a really nice little stick. Lots of sweet notes of dark chocolate and coffee but also notes of earth and rich tobacco. Perfect draw and a very even, consistent, and slow burn. I'm finding that I have less burn issues with box pressed cigars, and this was no exception. Lots of sweet and near full bodied smoke that was a real pleasure. Only wish I would've done better with my beverage pairing and poured a dark beer rather than an IPA. Those flavors clashed a bit, though I think the IPA did highlight some faint citrus notes in the cigar which made my smoke session all the more unique and interesting.

This is a very mild cigar with the consistently smooth Oliva profile. Oliva themselves on their site says the Cameroon wrapper is thin and doesn't have a lot of oil, so aging is relatively unimportant once you get it. It smokes a constant faint chocolate-coffee vibe. Final third was a bit harsh. Size seems kind of smaller than they claim, in terms of ring gauge (it looks thin), maybe due to the box press. Frankly the Serie O smokes with a deeper chocolate-raisin character while still smooth, and the Serie V kicks everything up a few notches, adding cedar spice and espresso-raisin tones. I would not go for this again. Stick to the O and V and Melanio, which give way more bang for the buck.

Surprisingly good little cigar. Interesting yet subdued flavor with thick, heavy smoke and a delicious aroma. Small with a nice draw. Excellent for a quick smoke, enough potency to lift your spirits but not overbearing. Truly a hidden gem.

I am a big Oliva fan and have tried just about everything they make. Have had three of the five cigars in the sampler. The Series V Nub, the Series G Maduro Belicoso, and the OC-001. So far they have all been very harsh and bitter tasting. I have smoked a lot of Series V cigars and especially like the Belicoso size. The Nub left something to be desired. So far I would not buy any of the ones I tried.

The "G" in the Oliva Serie G Maduro Robusto name must stand for "Glorious" because this is an amazing cigar. In terms of taste, I would put this up against any Padron Anniversario. My only complaint is the construction... when i cut the cap, the wrapper just below it cracked and peeled. I keep my cigars in a Whynter refrigerator well cooled and humidified. So I'm not sure what the deal is. Wonderful tasting cigar though. Will absolutely be buying more.
