In Spanish-speaking countries, “Martes 13” (Tuesday the 13th) is not a good day to get married, travel or even leave the house. Why? Because Martes 13 is the Spanish equivalent to “Friday the 13th.” A date that if you are superstitious is reserved for avoiding walking under ladders, breaking mirrors, or stepping on sidewalk cracks. However, if you’re cigar smoker it’s a great day to enjoy the Asylum 13 Martes 13 Limited Edition cigar. This awesome Honduran puro is made of 100% Corojo tobacco with a muscular, savory natural wrapper. It offers a flavorful medium to full-bodied smoking indulgence that must be tried to be believed. However, as its name implies, this is a limited edition cigar, so don’t leave it to chance and order yours today.

The Asylum 867 Auntie is a flavor-infused cigar that uses the steeping method to add its unique flavors to the cigar. It is the first time Asylum has released what they call, “aromatic flavors via exotic tobaccos.” The cigar is a Honduran puro that sports an inviting maduro wrapper. Once the cigars are rolled, they are infused with flavors by submersing them in a flavored liquid or by using methods similar to aroma therapy, where the cigars are placed in a closed environment and allowed to absorb the flavors. The cigars are handmade in Honduras at the CLE Cigar Company factory. The Asylum 867 Auntie was formerly known as the Deadwood Tobacco Co. Chasing the Dragon Auntie. However, it uses the same blend and delivers the same delicious flavor profile as its previous alias.

The Asylum 867 Midnight Oil is a flavor-infused cigar that uses the steeping method to add its unique flavors to the cigar. The Asylum 867 Midnight Oil was formerly known as the Deadwood Tobacco Co. Chasing the Dragon Midnight Oil. However, it uses the same blend and delivers the same delicious flavor profile as its previous alias.

This same region is also known for its Connecticut shade grown and Corojo shade grown tobacco. In addition, Honduras produces Cuban-seed sun grown filler tobaccos of the highest quality.

In the cigar world there are a lot of myths. One of them is that the Dominican Republic does not make full-body cigars. Christian Eiroa and his team at the CLE Cigar Company asked, “Why not?” So, they searched this Caribbean Island nation for the right blend to make such a cigar and bust that myth. The Arkham, an Asylum Original, is a full-bodied cigar composed of all Dominican tobacco from its delicious natural Corojo wrapper right down to its filler. The Arkham has all the flavor and aroma you would expect from a cigar made of the finest Dominican tobacco, but with that added kick that only an Asylum cigar can deliver. Handcrafted in the Dominican Republic, the Arkham is one cigar you will want to keep in your regular rotation so be sure to order several.
Cigar Origin
Dominican Republic
Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
The Dominican Republic is the world's first producer of cigars. Most factories are located in Santiago, in the center of the island, and in close proximity to the tobacco fields grown in the fertile Cibao Valley. While tobacco and cigars have always traditionally been produced in the Dominican Republic, many Cuban cigar makers established in the Dominican Republic after the Cuban communist revolution, elevating the quality of Dominican cigars.

Wrapper
Corojo
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Corojo wrapper was first developed in Cuba in the 1930s and quickly became popular as the wrapper on some of the best cigars. By the end of the 90s, Cuba stopped growing Corojo wrapper because of its susceptibility to pests and diseases. Ironically, Corojo wrapper has since become more popular outside of Cuba, as it has been replicated in tobacco farms in Nicaragua, Honduras, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic.
Dominican
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
The main tobacco region in the Dominican Republic is the Cibao valley in the northern part of the island. In the 60s, Cuban seeds were brought here by exiled Cuban cigar makers and found that they grew exceptional cigar tobacco, called Piloto Cubano. The native Dominican tobacco, called Olor, is milder than Piloto Cubano yet more aromatic. The first company to grow Dominican tobacco for cigar wrapper was Tabacalera Arturo Fuente in 1995.
Binder
Dominican Republic
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Dominican Republic is a traditional tobacco-growing country. In the 60's, a Cuban seed was introduced and the resulting tobacco, called Piloto Cubano, became famous as a good substitute of the Cuban tobacco that was no longer allowed to enter the USA. Piloto Cubano is full bodied while the Dominican Olor tobacco is milder but more aromatic.

Filler (or “tripa” in Spanish) is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar. The Dominican Republic is considered one of the most premier tobacco growing countries in the world. The filler tobacco grown in this Caribbean island nation ranges from mild to full bodied. Olor Dominicano and Piloto Cubano are the main types of tobacco grown in the Dominican Republic.

The Asylum Cool Brew cigar is a medium-bodied cigar whose flavor profile is enhanced by a flavor-infused method known as steeping. The cigar is a Honduran puro that sports a tempting, dark maduro wrapper. Steeping involves immersing the finished cigars in a flavored liquid or using a technique similar to aroma therapy, which involves storing the cigars in a closed environment so that they can absorb the flavors. The cigars are handmade by the CLE Cigar Company in Honduras.

Featuring the darkest color found in cigar wrappers, maduro leaves are dark brown to almost black in color, and come from the primings furthest up on the plant. Having seen more sun, maduro wrappers tend to be richer and contain more nicotine than their lighter counterparts. Although somewhat intimidating in appearance, do not assume that all maduros are super strong - many can be milder than other types of wrappers, as well as naturally sweeter.

In Detroit, Michigan, the night before Halloween is referred to as “Devil’s Night.” It is when “pranksters” go out and commit petty crimes including arson and vandalism. This is done as a prelude to Halloween. Of course, this means firefighters must risk their lives to put out the fires caused by these “jokers.” Tom Lazuka, co-founder of Asylum Cigars, has created the limited edition Asylum Devil’s Night cigar to honor the Motor City’s firefighters. The cigar is a medium strength Honduran puro covered by a red-hued Colorado wrapper. It is handmade in Honduras at the El Aladino factory, which is owned by Christian Eiroa. A portion of the sales from the cigars will be donated to Detroit’s firefighters.

Wrapper
Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuador is the perfect place to grow wrappers, because it is located on the Equator! And it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the wrapper plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. This climate allows tobacco growers to grow Connecticut-seed wrapper in the shade without shade cloths, resulting in more economical wrapper.

Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.
