The Bellas Artes Maduro is AJ Fernandez’s latest addition to their Bellas Artes line of premium cigars. Handmade in Estelí, Nicaragua, the Bellas Artes Maduro uses a proprietary blend of filler grown on AJ Fernandez’s farm in Nicaragua. A Mexican San Andrés binder holds the filler in place which is covered by a Brazilian Mata Fina wrapper. Box-pressed, the Bellas Artes Maduro is a full-strength cigar that goes well with a stout beer, port wine, scotch, or bourbon. AJ Fernandez Bellas Artes Maduro is a true testament to the fine art of cigar crafting.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

Brazilian Mata Fina
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Hailing from the Reconcavo Basin region of Bahia, Brazilian Mata Fina, or 'thin forest', is some of the more popular Brazilian tobacco used. This stalk-cut sun-grown leaf is dark, medium-bodied in strength, and contains a smooth, earthy profile perfect for maduro or oscuro wrappers.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
The San Andres region in Mexico is known for producing some of the best tobacco in the world. The tobacco is stalk cut and valued for its rich dark color and used to make noteworthy maduro wrappers and binders.

Great smoke. Great easy, smooth draw. Razor sharp burn. Typical AJ Fernandez cigar in that it's well constructed. I thought was a Medium and not Full, as the flavor is more mild than a typical Maduro. Hints of cocoa and leather with just a little bit of sweetness from the wrapper. Not a flavor bomb, but balanced and pleasant.

Love the box pressed look. Well constructed cigar. Dark oily wrapper with notes of chocolate and pepper. Draws and burns well. Seemed to be a medium to mild cigar rather than full bodied. More enjoyable when smoked slowly. Smoking this one too fast will overheat it, make it bitter and mask some of the subtle flavours that are typically there.

My absolute favorite A.J. Fernandez cigar so far. This stick is beautiful to look at. The smooth dark wrapper with the gold band is absolutely stunning and it tells a story. The draw and burn were flawless throughout and provided lots of smoke. The aroma was thick and filled with tobacco and spice. The aroma was truly magical. There was a certain spicy sweetness about it that made me not want to put it down but the pepper let you know it was there. This is about a 90 minute smoke for me and boy is it enjoyable. Buy a box.

WOW! This lancero is definitely the most complex, balanced and full of transitions I have smoked so far. Construction was perfect. Burn needed some touch up occasionally ( because I am not an experienced lancero smoker). However, if you can strike that balance by smoking slow enough to get the flavors and not overheating it, it will be a great experience. Flavors: salty dark chocolate, spicy, light antique wood, light leather and a slight sweetness. The optics may not make you look like a "manly" cigar smoke lol, but smoke it in private if you must ??. I will definitely get a box of these for my "me" time. Great pairing with a smooth Burbon or whiskey (90 proof or lower).

Nice cigar with a unique shape. The way the filler tobaccos from AJ’s farm blends with the binder and capa leaf makes for a nice smoke. This one is more on the low side of full strength.

As this cigar neared its end, I was nagged by one thought. Will the $33 Padron figurado in my humidor be able to live up to this? Or even surpass it in sheer terms of quality and value? Visually appealing, this stunning figurado impresses not only with its expert construction. The wrapper is a very dark, cocoa hued maduro with consistent coloring, small veins, and virtually unblemished. Also no having to worry about those plugged torpedo heads that make you cut all the way to the shoulder to get a decent draw. This was expertly rolled. The burn is another indication. Extremely even throughout. Flavor was great, and peaked after the first third, which was surprisingly mild. It could be described as leathery, slightly earthy, and lots of dark chocolate with a hint of white pepper. Towards the final third, flavors were slightly less pronounced, but it never got bitter. True winner here, especially for fans of maduros and/or salamones.

A box-pressed cigar that is very classy. The feel is soft, but in a luxurious, not cheap way. The draw was spot on, burn was impeccable, and the flavors were a dance of oak, spice and chocolate which, while making their presence known, were never overpowering in any way. Highly recommend!!

The Bellas Artes Maduro by AJ Fernandez Robusto is a beautiful dark box-pressed cigar with a Mata Fina wrapper from Brazil, a San Andres binder and a Nicaraguan filler that makes it a complex cigar. The wrapper is smooth in texture and has notes of leather, wood, and dry earth. The foot gives off an aroma of rich earth, dark chocolate, strong spices, and pepper. When I light this cigar, the first third opens up with some intense dark chocolate flavors and some heavy, rich earth. This is a cigar that smokes at a solid full level for strength, body and flavors. The second third delivers a lot of the same qualities that are present in the first third, and I am getting some dark chocolate and spicy notes. The final third delivers notes of sweet spices and espresso beans. It is followed by some leather and earth qualities with a hint of oak. It is not as full as the first two thirds, but still full overall. The draw was perfect with a well-balanced burn and beautiful solid light gray ash. The AJ Fernandez Bellas Artes Maduro was a solid smoke. If you like a full-bodied smoke, then you need to try this stick.

Everything about these is great in my opinion. It's hard to say they aren't impressive beyond their price. I sat and totally zoned out with this one. Extremely dark yet smooth and full of flavour. Never thought of putting it down once. Very obvious stages. Peppery first inch then it's complex flavours starting with chocolate and coffee as you'd expect. Then back to some more strength to finish once the label comes of. As is usually the case in big cigars. Underrated in my opinion. Very highly regarded in the UK. I bought a box and cat wait to work my way through. Will buy more even if the price goes up a bit.

It's a truly beautiful stick to look at, that dark dark brown wrapper and eye-catching bands. It was medium-bodied throughout, some cafe/bread notes, just a hint of spice. Quite pleasant really and not bad for a $10 stick. That said, I think the Mi Queridas in the same price range (or even the Jericho Hill Willy Lee) have a bit more "zazz." Worth trying to see if it's your bag, but I probably won't rush back to buy more.

I'd say "good but not great." Very consistent typical maudro flavors, very smooth, few changes ... for an $8 stick, hard to complain. But nothing stood out to make me say "I have to buy more!" There are some $10-range sticks that I'd say have more zazz. Worth trying to see if it's your jam.

This is the first cigar I've had that packs the same pepper punch as a spicy meal. It was rich with notes of black pepper, wood, earth, dark chocolate, and a queer dried fruit/allspice note. Enjoyable, despite the nicotine hit being very strong. I did have a tough time keeping it lit though.

Earth, cedar, maybe a touch of sweetness and a molasses character. This is a remarkable totally enjoyable cigar, savor it. Easily a 90-92 range quality. Highly recommended for an experienced smoker, box pressed is an attribute. I don't notice Aroma when lit but pre-light was enticing and strong, much to admire! Will buy more!
