Released by the Garcia family in 2014, the My Father Connecticut responds to a demand from fans for a milder My Father. The company calls it the "best Connecticut in the market today", a mild offering with strong flavor and just a bit of spice. With binder and fillers from Nicaragua and an Ecuadorian Shade Grown Connecticut, this one is definitely a great morning smoke.

Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.

Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuador is the perfect place to grow wrappers, because it is located on the Equator! And it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the wrapper plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. This climate allows tobacco growers to grow Connecticut-seed wrapper in the shade without shade cloths, resulting in more economical wrapper.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan Corojo ’99 tobacco was first used as a wrapper in Cuba during the late 20th Century. It was then grown in Ecuador and eventually in Nicaragua. Primarily, it is used as a wrapper, but it is also used as a binder. It is regarded for its spiciness.

Appearance- Smooth, silky wrapper. Couple of blemishes and small cracks hiding under bands. 1T- Burn needs one touchup. Starts off tangy, woody with caramel, coffee, honey, graham notes. Some light spice. 2T- Burn is wavy but not bad. Honey, coffee, tangy notes. Cracks in wrapper expanding. 3T- Burn acceptable. Wrapper crack pops open. Leather, honey, some cocoa. Towards the end, some dryness, bitterness, ashiness. Overall- Great draw throughout, nice aroma. Flavors start off nice, nothing spectacular, but don't end well, with some bitterness and ashy flavors at the end. Burn is so-so, needed a touchup. 52 minute smoke time.

My favorite Connecticut cigar at the moment. The 60 ring gauge makes for a cool smoke so the cigar never gets bitter, and the amount of spice is a lot less compared to the other vitolas. Just make sure you dry-boxed 2-3 days before smoking it (the sweet-spot for me is at ~60-62% RH).

What a pleasant surprise! My Father Connecticut 6x60, is a Connecticut-seed Ecuadorian wrapper cigar with a Nicaraguan binder and filler it grown on the Garcia family’s farms. The cigar’s taste is a combination of Earth, leather, hay, rich buttery notes, and a white pepper spice. Full of Flavor mild-bodied profile with hints of Coffee, cinnamon, and cedar spice linger on the finish. This mild cigar has plenty of taste and was very well constructed, excellent draw, and burned straight from beginning to end. If you are not an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper Fan, please, try My Father Connecticut and for sure it will change your opinion about Connecticut leaf.

Absolutely box worthy. Excellent construction and beautiful appearance. The gordo has a great draw with proper sized cut. The burn is even with proper humidification and care during lighting. Aroma is typical of a Connecticut, with the nice addition of some white pepper in the nose but nothing that tingles. This is not a strong cigar, it’s very pleasant and I would say mild-medium all around. Flavors are harder to pick out in the gordo compared to the 52 gauge robusto. Personally I don’t think anything stands out like the nice white pepper notes of the robusto that set this blend apart from average CTs. It’s a great cigar in any size and the only 6x60 I actually enjoy. When I finish this box of gordos I will probably go back to the 5.2x52 robusto but that’s just personal preference.

I started off like most people with the flor de las Antilles and le bijou and figured that there is no way ALL of their smokes are good, so I am going through them all and all I can say to you if you are reading this review. Like davidoff, padron and fuente, my father are constantly excellent. If you are new to cigars, want to try new ones but don’t wish to waste your cash, padron and davidoff for treats, my father and fuente for every other day, you cannot go wrong

One of my favorite cigars that are smooth enough to go well with coffee as well as glass of whiskey. After first one third the cigars gets richer in flavors which makes it perfect to match with a light session ale for an example.

You can’t go wrong with any My Father cigars. I usually smoke Med-Full cigars, but I needed to balance out my collection with some Mild-Med stogies, so I chose these ovet other maker’s Mild/Connecticut. I chose these because the wrappers were grown in CT USA. Very enjoyable smoke when you’re looking for something mellow and creamy. Nice burn and draw. Nice big smoke cloud. The flavor is buttery, creamy, peachy and even has a little Balsam Fir on the nose. Like those scented pillows in the Vermont country stores. Looking forward to aging this box and burning them with friends.

Had some issues with draw n burn at first and didn't detect much taste n aroma but they all improved noticeably about half way thru. I prob wont try this one again but for fans of milder connecticuts I'd think they'd like this one...

As you know, I’m a huge fan of Connecticut wrappers. It’s why I tried the My Father Connecticut Toro Gordo. This premium cigar features a handsome Connecticut wrapper, with a Nicaraguan Corojo binder and a specially blended filler composed of Nicaraguan Criollo and Habano tobaccos. A very attractive cigar, the My Father Connecticut Toro Gordo’s wrapper has barely visible veins and seams. A pre-light sniff of the foot offered up an interesting aroma of cedar and aged tobacco with a slight hint of freshly ground pepper. Once lit, this fine cigar greeted me with a pleasant taste of toasted nuts and an exciting peppery sensation. During the first third, I picked up notes of aged tobacco and cinnamon. The second third was consistent with the first although the peppery notes had mellowed out a bit. The cigar’s intensity picked up considerably in the final third. At one point, there was a shift in the profile, which added richer notes of white chocolate and French bread with a buttery texture. The My Father Connecticut Toro Gordo’s has a nice and easy draw, and the flavors are easy to pick out. Overall, the My Father Connecticut Toro Gordo is a very smooth Connecticut shade smoke with strong and prevalent notes. This is definitely a beautiful, medium-bodied cigar that can be enjoyed by a both the veteran and novice cigar aficionado.

I love this brand. I've tried the Connecticut, the Centurion H2KCT and Le Bijou. Everyone of them, in my opinion, five stars and a personal favourite. This sampler pack is a great way to try some of the other My Father brands and peak my curiosity without breaking the bank. Who knows, maybe I'll find another great cigar to add to my favourites list. The free cutter and lighter is also a nice touch.

Had been waiting to try this sampler and it didn't disappoint. Just getting into the set and saving the Le Bijou for last. Nice presentation though I was only interested in the cigars. I can't imagine there would be much cost difference to change out the basic lighter to a torch lighter.

The fact that two of these cigars alone would be more than half the cost of the total means you're in for a heck of a deal. My Father cigars are definitely worth it.

Outside of Perdomo this is my second favorite cigar. I tend to stay with Connecticut but for good reason. I would also recommend this cigar.

I love these cigars, great smoke quite possibly one of the best lines i've smoked in years. Creamy smooth and wonderful aromas. The construction on these are awesome, wonderfully crafted perhaps with even a triple cap. These are pricey but well worth the money. Definitely a high end cigar worth consideration. Only observation or complaint was the roll on this box was tighter than usual so it was a harder draw.
