Named after the legendary Steve Saka's favorite fishing lake, Umbagog is the ideal cigar for the great outdoors. Made up of the wrapper leaves deemed 'too ugly' for use in a higher-end blend, this affordable full-bodied Nicaraguan cigar proudly sports a rough Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper which hugs Nicaraguan binder and filler and provides a rich and flavorful mix of earthy spice. Although it may not win any aesthetic awards, that's not what Umbagog is about. Umbagog wants to get dirty. It wants to join you on the pier, or the lawnmower, or the hiking trail. Light one up, crack your knuckles, and begin your adventure.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

USA Connecticut Broadleaf
The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Connecticut Broadleaf is grown in the United States' Connecticut Valley and is prized for its dark, oily, full flavored and aromatic characteristics. The plants are grown in full sun giving this cigar wrapper its characteristic sweetness. The Connecticut Broadleaf plant leaves are mainly processed as maduro tobacco. Today, Connecticut Broadleaf seeds are being grown in other countries besides the United States.
Binder
Nicaragua
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Nicaraguan cigar binders are produced mainly in Esteli and Jalapa, both lands with volcanic soil and excellent climate for growing tobacco. Binders grown in Jalapa have sweet undertones. Corojo, Habana2000, Criollo, and Maduro binders are all produced in Nicaragua.

Filler is the term used to describe the tobacco inside a cigar or the "guts" of the cigar.

To each their own. The Umbagog is a medium bodied cigar with a very creamy body, easy draw and even burn. Light tones of leather and cocoa with a great smoke output. For those who like a flavorful cigar without the spicier/harsher taste on your palette, this cigar is perfect for you. The idea of an ugly wrapper and being “cheap” is false; a result of great marketing. Used the XIKAR VX2 V-Cut cutter. Where’s the 20-25 box offering?!

Saka’s budget stick is far more refined than most broadleafs out there. With a little humi time it can be very smooth for a cigar that is extremely durable. The absolute best golf course cigar with little worries of damage when dropping around greens and fairways.

The story behind these is awsome this cigar is literally the Mi Querida. The leafs that don't make the cut to be a Mi Querida goes to the umbagog. Saka did a podcast talking all about it. He said he hates when he sees a umbagog with a perfect wrapper when he could have been a Mi Querida. These are definitely box worthy.

Excellent full bodied smoke. Umbagog is named after a lake that straddles the New Hampshire/Maine border and is a great Brook Trout and Land Locked Salmon fishery. This cigar lives up to its namesake - I highly recommend both the lake and the cigar. Grab your fly rod and cigar cutter for a good time!

This is a great cigar! I did not find it to be as ugly or as spicy as the other reviews. I found that if you cut minimally on this stick, it's a really good balance between sweet and spicy. The draw was perfect, slightly uneven burn but overall great stick!

Lovely aroma, a bit tight draw but not too bad. Medium full flavour. Deep earth, pepper all over the tongue with a touch of sour cherry in first third. A sourness that bordered on unpleasant ramped up during the second third. The sourness lessened during final third but pepper, pepper, pepper on the tongue and retro hale. Reasonable stick, but not for me. The pepper I didn't mind it was the sourness that ruined it (and I love sour spirits like Campari).

Good construction. tight draw. leather, earth, clean tobacco taste. Medium plus on flavors and strength. This "bargain" stick from Steve Saka is dialed in lower in flavors and strength than his other BOLD (and more expensive) blend: a great choice for the money.

everything that comes out of Dunbarton is excellent...but this might be the best. smooth full flavored stick that just keeps the flavor coming. I don't find it overly complex, but a really natural flavor throughout.
