Brick House Cigars

Made in Nicaragua by the J.C. Newman Cigar Company, the Brick House brand was originally founded in 1937 by Julius Caeser Newman. The brand name is an homage to his family's home in Hungary. In 2009, the brand saw a resurgence and began using premium Nicaraguan tobacco in place of the Cuban tobacco used in the past. It has since found a permanent spot in the hearts of smokers looking for a solid, consistent, affordable, and most importantly of all, delicious cigar.

The cigar was crafted to celebrate Octoberfest and the perfect pairing of cigars and beer. For the Bricktoberfest cigar, J.C. Newman recommends you enjoy the cigar by pairing it with a märzen-style beer. The cigars are handmade in Nicaragua.

The cigar had a rustic look to it, draw was slightly tight but workable. Construction and burn were excellent. Quite a lot of spice throughout the whole smoke. Flavors started off slightly bitter, some nuttiness, some sweetness. Then it got sweeter, more like a honey sweetness. Some slight cocoa. Spice was still there. Then towards the second half, flavors held up, not a lot of changes. Still quite sweet, smooth, but spice was still present. Overall, not a bad cigar, would be better without all the spice. Creamy texture. Solid medium strength.

This cigar is cracker!! Burns a little loose and the looks would benefit from something more artful in a label but that is all superficial. Flavor is what counts and this stick delivers. Rich and smooth notes of coffee, cocoa and toast throughout, with a bit of spice on the retro-hale. Slightly sweet overall and worth every penny. These will be a mainstay in the humidor.

This cigar started fairly ho-hum to me with a firm draw and cedar with faint baking spices. Then about a third in it really opened up. Draw loosened and the burn settled in to almost perfect and some pepper emerged. The back half lived up to the hype. That made this an interesting and worthwhile smoke especially for the price tag.

Oft overlooked, I present to you the humble, yet quite competent, Brickhouse Churchill. Named after the brick house in Hungary in which Mr. Julius Caeser Newman, the company founder, was raised, this cigar is nostalgic in nature, but not pretentious by any means. The Brickhouse line consists of reliable, straight forward, high-quality sticks that punch above their weight. Admittedly, I had to relight once or twice along the journey, but it could have been due to my distractable nature, and really was not that big of a deal. Once she was really cooking, the burn line stayed perfectly straight and the ash as white as snow. Flavor wise, this stick rose above my expectations. Notes of cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg danced with cedar and hazelnut. The smoke has a creamy and rich quality to it, and produced a sweet caramel like aroma that I really enjoyed. I found that pairing it with a glass of unsweetened iced tea with a slice of ripe peach as a garnish was perfect for a beautiful sunny afternoon. Cheers!

My favorite vitola of this series. I prefer a Connecticut wrapper in the morning with coffee, and this possesses all the qualities of a great Connecticut cigar at an unbeatable price. Every once in awhile I have to cut a bit higher on the shoulder than I want to get a great draw, but that's just a small issue. I highly recommend this stick.

Great cigar, but I like the torpedo just a little bit more. Nice creamy smoke with the sweet cedar and grassy notes that you expect from a good Connecticut, but at a great price. Love these with a morning coffee. Highly recommended!

this was one of the first Maduro cigars I smoked as a novice. it is still a solid performer. excellent construction, flavor and strength are balanced. effortless and very enjoyable anytime of the day. pairs well with any drink alcohol or not but I prefer it with coffee. it is very consistent, more than you would expect 4 a cigar at that price.

As the French say, "Comme ci comme ça" (so-so). A stronger bite of spice than expected for a mild-med labeled stick, which I don't mind. Usual Connie flavors of grassy, nutty, and some creaminess, though not as creamy as I wanted. The burn was a problem, as it tended either to run a bit too warm or die out with patience. Needed touch-ups to stay cool. Overall: I had fairly high expectation given the quality brand, and the Connecticut flavor suited me fine; with a better, slower burn, I would've rated it higher. My rating: 3.5/5

These are really good sticks for the money. I've ordered them 3 times. Each time, they were over humidified. They don't burn well unless I take them out of the humidor the day before I smoke them, or if I let them rest for several weeks in the humidor before smoking them. Kind of annoying.

Dark with a little tooth, this is a gorgeous stick. Pre-light aroma of floral notes and cedar, followed by earth and black pepper on the cold draw. Once lit, you’re treated to ample amounts of light gray smoke. Creamy flavors of coffee, dark chocolate and hints of caramel paired great with a White Russian. Smooth draw, even burn and great taste made this a great way to spend a cool Wednesday evening.

If you like real Cuban cigar and cannot get them or think they are too expensive, do not look any further, buy a box of this robusto. The taste is very very close to original Cuban Partagas and Bolivar. Start medium and the power kicks during the second half. Lots of flavor and spice. Do not smoke fast or you may get burn issues. This is very nice one and half hour smoke.

I enjoyed some Brickhouse cigars from a local shop so tried this one from Neptune. Very good, high quality cigar in all respects. The maduro is a little strong for me, I prefer a medium strength like the natural Brickhouse. Great cigar, I would get Brickhouse again but probably not the maduro.

A bargain smoke, for sure! Once I started smoking this one, I understood why Cigar Aficionado put it on the 2016 Best Buys list. While I found the draw a little tight, the cigar burned wonderfully and was full of flavor. Some mild spice on the tongue with a nice hearty smoke flavor.

This was a very nice cigar. Stellar, not so much, but a nice stick. Well made, smoked well, nice thick smoke, good draw. The flavor and smell did not stand out, but were very pleasant. Would I buy a box of them? Probably not, but will I add a few of these to my next order? Definitely. I think they'd be great for a beginner. The short torpedo lets you get a nice petit corona size opening from a big cigar, and is nicely constructed. This sets the benchmark high for all the Brick House cigars I have left to try.

Great bang for your buck! Cigar is smooth not overpowering, which is a great thing for a maduro stick. Every time I smoke a Brick House Maduro it's a pleasure. Even burn, consistent flavor, ill smoke it untill it's to short to hold on to it anymore. I would definitely recommend others to give this cigar a try.

The first few draws on this after toasting, were "WOW"! Beautiful rich flavors of hazelnut and black tea! Into the first third, the initial flavors faded and it got less exciting, with a medium bodied up-front flavor of spicy nutmeg and a slightly charred character. Those flavors slowly grew stronger and stronger, until after the band point where it finally started to heat up. The good news is that it never developed any bitterness until it got to the point where it was going to burn my fingers anyway. The draw was a little on the firm side, but it was fine. The burn was a little ragged so I gave it a couple of touchups along the way. The strength was probably more on the low end of medium. The final word: I'm not a professional cigar taster, but I wouldn't support the high CA rating. It's a pretty good cigar, but not a great cigar, and not a favorite, even in this price range. Tasting notes: I paired it with a glass of premium Estonian vodka, neat... which may have been a little unfair to the cigar, because next to that fabulous vodka, it had some very high expectations to live up to.

Cigar aficionado got it right when it gave the brick house traveler such a high rating. The 3 more important aspects to define a good stick: aroma, flavor and construction are perfectly covered and its achievement goes way beyond its price point. For sure the tube helps to retain the aroma better than the cellophane but there's something more going on there...it reflects in every single aspect of this cigar. Cedar and earth combined with a little bit of pepper makes the traveler not only rich but also a nice smooth smoke. Perfect to please different palates and to fulfill different moments.

A very good, but not great cigar. Good tobacco smell and cold draw pre-light. Lights and burns nicely. Not a lot of spice, but pretty full bodied and lots of smoke for a medium cigar. The second half continued pretty much as the first, but with a touch of earth toward the nub.
