San Lotano Cigars

Over the years, AJ Fernandez has climbed to the top of the totem pole of Nicaraguan tobacco, and in an admirable move, he's since resurrected one of the first names that put his family on the cigar map - his grandfather's San Lotano brand. Featuring a variety of wrappers and sizes, these Nicaraguan beauties are also available with the company's trademark Oval vitola, consisting of a more rounded, only slightly box-pressed design that has been described as being more comfortable to smoke.

The San Lotano Dominicano features a dark, Cuban-seed Brazilian wrapper that is expertly cloaked over a Dominican binder, which houses fillers from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. Skillfully handmade in the Dominican Republic at Blanco’s Tabacalera Palma factory, the San Lotano Dominicano is composed of tobaccos from both AJ Fernandez and Jochy Blanco’s farms.

San Lotano is the first brand by AJ Fernandez, the maker of top selling cigars for other companies for many years. The San Lotano Connecticut cigar is made in Nicaragua with an Ecuador Connecticut wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Nicaragua, Honduras and the Dominican Republic. As a big AJ fan I knew I had tried these previously, but didn't remember why I stopped smoking them. I bought several and rediscovered how great they are, right up there with my other AJ favorites like Ramon Allones, Punch Diablo Scamp, H Upmann Heritage and Esteli Puro. The box press and San Andres wrapper make this a wonderful smoke. Try a few if you haven't had the mbefore, you will likely buy again.

If you've followed my Staff Picks for any amount of time, it should come as no shock that Connecticut Shade cigars are not my usual choice. Definite zing on the first draw that lingers. I taste tobacco and wood. After the first 1/2 inch intensity subsided a bit. Medium body smoke. Easy draw, great smoke output. Burning evenly. Into the second half the zing has all but disappeared. Flavours haven’t changed much. Total smoke time 1 hour. Great smoke. I’d buy it again!

I bought this cigar on an AJ Fernandez pick up trick to Neptune because I smoke anything AJ blends and I can say with all confidence that this was the best stick that I’ve ever smoked. I had one of these for the first time and smoked it after a couple of days of getting them from Neptune Cigars. Overall a great smoke, deep, rich flavors with plenty of thick smoke. Draw was pretty firm all the way though but produced plenty of rich white smoke. I wouldn't call it smooth but it definitely wasn't harsh. I'd pick up more of these

I very much wanted to love this cigar. Right out of the package its a great looking stick. The aroma is wonderful, but one would expect that with the blend of the cigar. The draw is very Padron-esque and the burn is terrific. The accolades must end there, for me. Its a very one dimensional cigar taste-wise. I was so hoping the cigar would develope through the burn, but it just never would. It reminds me of every Gurkha I've tried. I still want to like this cigar, but I can't...
