Handmade at the La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Nicaragua, the Deadwood Leather Rose is a medium-strength stick that sports a dark, oily Brazilian maduro wrapper placed over an Indonesian binder and a Nicaraguan filler. It is considered the spiciest stick in the Deadwood series, which was created by Drew Estate for the Deadwood Tobacco Co., a cigar shop located in South Dakota. The Deadwood Leather Rose is the fourth “sister” to join the popular ladies of Deadwood. The other “ladies” in the Deadwood lineup include Sweet Jane, Fat Bottom Betty, and Crazy Alice.

Most cigars are manufactured in the Caribbean and Central America.
Despite many decades of war and revolution in this Central American country, the cigar industry has thrived due to the hard work and tenacity of Cuban exiles to the land such as Plasencia, Padron, Oliva, Ortez, and others. Tobacco has been a force of social stability, and the country is now one of the principal exporters of premium cigars in the world.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Maduro wrapper can go from dark coffee brown with a reddish tint to blackish brown (the latter also called Oscuro).

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Brazil grows tobacco from North to South. The East Central State of Bahia is an important cigar tobacco producer. The growing area is about 100 miles west of the state capital, Salvador da Bahia, an active port on the Atlantic Coast. The Northern State of Alagoas hosts a production around the city of Arapiraca where maduro wrappers are grown.

Indonesia
The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.
Tobacco is grown in many islands of the Archipelago but, as far as cigars are concerned, Sumatra and Java are the ones. Sumatra Wrappers are worldwide known. Central Java (Vorstenland) and East Java (Besuki) give fillers and wrappers in abundance. Indonesia is a key country for cigar tobacco.

I was really surprised by the Leather Rose. Nice oily wrapper and the band is really nice looking. What surprised me was the taste. It was sweet, but not too sweet. I tend to shy away from a sweeter cigar, but this one was fairly subtle. It was a very smooth cigar, but the last third tended to be the spiciest. I thought this was a one and done, and while it won't be a regular smoke, I'll be adding some to my humidor.

First encounter with a Deadwood, decided to take her for a spin on lunch break. Appearance wise it's a rugged looking leaf. Somehow it works with the macabre band art though. The petit corona is a nice shape, holds in the hand well for a short smoke. Tip is sweetened. Went with a vcut to preserve the sweetened tip, a mini punch would do well also. Light up was a breeze and I was pleasantly surprised by the draw. Flavor profile is a blend of sugar and spice. There's some leather, some vegetal bitterness. Reminiscent of pipe tobacco with a dash of cinnamon. Rose is sassy. Burn was a lazy wave with a decently stacked heather ash. Into the second third the burnline evened out earning it another star. Draw was superb, and pulled effortless dense white clouds, especially for its stature. Despite being relatively loose, the stack held on for over an inch. Flavor profile transitioned into full on Mexican hot chocolate. Cocoa, some pepper, and nutmeg, Delicious and earned every one of the four stars. ????? Taking it past the band, everything was okay but definitely past crescendo in the flavor profile. Spent an enjoyable 35 minutes with it altogether though. Would revisit for future quick sessions.

I thought all the other Deadwood sticks tasted great, but no zing. This one has a medium amount of that zing on the retrohale I prefer. The aroma and flavors on these is something different and very pipe tobacco like vs other infusions most makers do. Try one!

Fantastic smoke! Sweet and steady throughout. A more medium/light blend in my opinion; but doesn't take away from this cigar at all. Half way through and I'm reminded of Big Red Chewing Gum, just delicious.

This girl is an amazing achievement! She comes with a footband of black satin; a cute little garter shout-out(I see what they did there). Her draw is just right, and you practically need to hit her with a truck to knock the ash off. Clean, stable burn, and the taste...y'all old enough to remember the Wilson's Leather stores at your local mall before they went out of business? If you blended the aroma of that store with a walk-in humidor full of top-name tobacco, how that smells is how Leather Rose tastes. She's now a permanent part of my rotation.

After getting to know Crazy Alice anf Fat Bottom Betty, I expected more from Leather Rose. I picked her up about a week ago at Neptune in Ft Lauderdale, and kept her in a Boveda Humi bag at 69RH. Very loosely constructed, and spongy, which produced a very loose draw with acceptable amounts of smoke, but not the perfumed thick smoke I have come to expect from the Yummy Bitches. The aroma was on point, both after removing the cellophane and when lit. The sweet tip fades quickly, and a chamomile tea like flavor takes over, with a little spice mixed in the tea with light wood and some natural sweetness from the leafs (not the tip). Grey Ash holds about 1 inch. Very pleasant and relaxing.

Not usually a fan of infused cigars but wanted to try something unique & different.Running it across the nasals were hints of vanilla spice and some leather.Lots of initial sweetness.Moves into citrus peel and some cinnamon,leather.Mild bitterness.Thick flaky ash.Plumes of smoke.All in all enjoyable cigar.

I bought four of these and the first thing I noted was they all felt loose and soft, but not because they were over humidified. They looked and smelled great. I put them away for about two months. It still didn’t change the texture. The draw was loose, but it really didn’t take away from the smoke. It had a nice sweetness that I didn’t find overwhelming. The sweetness lessened as the smoke went on turning to a nice rich tobacco flavor. Plenty of aromatic smoke. Burned nicely. No relights necessary just one touch up to correct the burn at about the half way point. It lasted longer than I thought at about 1 hour and 15 minutes down to the nub. Overall an enjoyable smoke.

I gave the leather rose ?? five stars ? cause this cigar hit on everything . The sweet aroma coming off the maduro wrapper of an undisclosed origin. there’s that familiar aromatic smell reminiscent of pipe tobacco as well. The smooth open draw,a rich sweetness touch of pepper on the retrohale that balances nicely with the sweet aspect of the Leather Rose.This is one nice smoke and for me my favorite of all the “Yummy Bitches “

Deadwood (AKA Drew Estate) hit it out of the park with this one. Love the sweet tip and overall flavor - definitely feel that spicy flavor in the first third. Overall, a great medium-strength cigr that had excellent construction and burn, as well as a smooth and easy draw. I will be keeping a box of these around moving forward.
