  In 1848, Jose and Eusebio Alfonso, two cigar crafters from Havana, Cuba, released the Byron cigar. The cigars were named after the great English poet Lord Byron. 175 years later the Byron 19th Century was launched to honor the original. In 1998, Nelson Alfonso, founder of Selected Tobaccos and the original owners’ great-great-great grandson was able to recover the name and re-launch the brand.
