  The Punch Golden Era cigar is a Honduran puro that is packed with Corojo tobacco, which is prized for its deep brown color, barely visible veins, and rich flavor. However, this tobacco is susceptible to blue-mold disease, which means it provides a low yield making the tobacco highly coveted. The tobacco for the Golden Era is grown at the JRE Tobacco Farm. The cigars are handmade at JRE’s Fabrica de Puros Aladino factory in Honduras. Both the farm and factory are owned by the Eiroa family, who are well-known for their expertise in managing Corojo tobacco. The Punch Golden Era cigar’s name is a reference to the “golden age” of cigars and the key role Corojo tobacco played in shaping that period (which ran from the late 1800s to the early 1900s).

The Jamastran Valley is known for producing a full-bodied tobacco that draws strong comparisons to the tobacco grown in the Pinar del Rio region of Cuba. This same region is also known for its Connecticut shade grown and Corojo shade grown tobacco. In addition, Honduras produces Cuban-seed sun grown filler tobaccos of the highest quality.

  Corojo wrapper was first developed in Cuba in the 1930s and quickly became popular as the wrapper on some of the best cigars. By the end of the 90s, Cuba stopped growing Corojo wrapper because of its susceptibility to pests and diseases. Ironically, Corojo wrapper has since become more popular outside of Cuba, as it has been replicated in tobacco farms in Nicaragua, Honduras, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic.
