The Ashton cigar brand made its initial appearance on the cigar scene in 1985. But long before the first Ashton cigar was ever smoked or rolled, it was the lifelong dream of Robert Levin. The son of the founder of the legendary Holt’s Cigar Company based in Philadelphia, Levin was raised around tobacco and cigars.
In the 1970s, he was handed the reigns to the family enterprise, and through hard work and perseverance, Robert was able to expand his father’s business in both the retail and mail order arena. After years of significant growth, Levin focused his talents on creating a cigar brand under these guiding principles: produce a high-quality product and deliver a high-level consumer experience at an attainable price.
To achieve this goal, Levin needed help. It was why he turned to the Fuente family to produce his cigars. The Fuente family had a history of making remarkable cigars that spanned generations. Plus, the Fuentes shared the same principles as Levin when it came to producing cigars. Together, the two-family owned and operated enterprises helped develop and expand the Ashton brand.
In the 2000s, Levin partnered with another famous cigar crafter who shared his vision: Jose “Pepin Garcia of My Father Cigars. Together they were able to reintroduce the storied La Aroma de Cuba as well as the San Cristobal brand.
More than 35 years later, the Ashton Cigar Company is still a family run business that is helmed by Levin and his son, Sathya Levin. Ashton cigars are available in every state in the United States and in 65 countries.
