For premium cigars, the wrapper is natural, as opposed to the artificial homogenized sheet used in the fabrication of machine-made cigars. However, “natural” is also used to designate the light brown color of the wrapper leaf. Wrappers can be found in other colors such as: colorado (medium brown/reddish), colorado-maduro (dark brown), and maduro (very dark brown/black). Some Maduro wrappers are natural (Brazil Arapiraca and Bahia, some Mexican San Andres, and Cameroon), while other come from tobacco leaves that have been darkened through a special process in order to obtain very dark/black leaves (Broadleaf, some Mexican San Andres, and some Cameroon).
