The youngest sibling in the Liga Undercrown brand, the Undercrown Sungrown follows the release of the original Maduro and the Shade. The Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper on this cigar is sungrown, balanced with stalk-cut binder from the Connecticut River Valley, filler from Nicaragua and one leaf of aged Nicaraguan ligero for extra oomph.

Cigar wrapper color varies from green (Double Claro or Candela) to black (Maduro or Oscuro) with a full range of browns in between.
Colorado is a medium brown color also known as EMS or English Market Selection as this used to be the color with more popularity in England than in America.

The wrapper is the last tobacco leaf to be rolled on the cigar, so it is the one the smoker will see.
Ecuador is the perfect place to grow wrappers, because it is located on the Equator! And it has rich soils too. The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the wrapper plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. Ecuador supplies Connecticut and Sumatra type wrappers to many cigar factory in the world.

The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together.

The Liga Undercrown Sungrown uses a reddish Ecuadorian Sumatra-seed sun grown wrapper with a binder and filler made of tobaccos from Estelí, Nicaragua to create a medium-strength cigar. This is another good cigar from Drew Estate. The appearance is very pleasing to the eyes. The draw and burn were perfect and provided great smoke output. This stick creates a rich and spicy aroma. The taste was really nice with hints of wood, spice, and leather throughout. For me this is a medium-full profile smoke. I would recommend this cigar to anyone.

Like Todd N I also had issues with cracking and splitting starting with the cut. Otherwise a good performer and tasty smoke. Started nutty and turned peppery about halfway through. Nice draw and burn. Fix the cracking wrapper issues and we have an excellent smoke with this one.

A lovey medium to full bodied smoke. The smoke was quite dry with flavours of light dry earth right to the back of the throat with some cinnamon, a dry almond nuttiness, and it left an oily film on my lips. There was also a touch of wood and nutmeg. The retro hale was smooth with some pepper. A nice long finish after each draw. The final third the burn slowed right down and was epic. I think I preferred the robusto size as the flavours were a bit more complex. I am finding the Undercrowns great go to everyday type cigars.

I really enjoyed this cigar. I was pleasantly surprised by this. It was well constructed and tasted wonderful. One of my favorite "morning" cigar that I enjoy anytime I'm in the mood for a great smoke. Smooth and effortless smoke, very tasty and the flavors are "dialed down" from the typical maduro. This is also a consistent smoke no matter how often I smoke it or how long I wait to try another.

Very pleasant. Very sweet honey-cedar type sweet flavor throughout. Not much power but good in the mornings. I recommend them. Cigars came nice and oily and without issue. They definitely need a few more weeks to acclimate in the humidor before enjoying.

Short and sweet. Not sure about what note that would look be, but I picked up on the sweetness. About an hour long enjoyment which surprised me since cigar is short and fat. Tasted pepper and some chocolate. Very good, one of the best I tried. Definitely, buying a box.

I really wanted to like this stick and this line from Liga. Big fan of the T52s and pigs and rats. This is a beautiful-looking stick, fat, with oily sungrown wrapper. But the flavor and aroma were substantially underwhelming. Nothing to make it stand out. For the $10 price I'm not expecting Padron quality, but Oliva makes several sticks in the price range with much richer, deeper flavor. The CAO Flathead 770 is a big stick for the same price with a smoother character. This Liga Undercrown line isn't bad by any means, just not exciting. Try for yourself but caveat emptor.

This is a beautiful-looking stick, for sure, including the banding. However, after smoking a few, I just can't fall in love with it and I don't think it lives up to the hype (there was hype that the rollers created the Undercrown line when they were told they couldn't smoke the Liga Privadas any more, or something like this). I have found this cigar to burn uneven and somewhat hot/harsh, not "nubbable" and without any richness (especially the coffee-chocolate richness of the Liga Privadas). Worth a try to see if it's for you, but it's not for me.

This cigar features a beautiful oily Ecuadorian Sumatra sun grown wrapper with a nice reddish hue, inviting and attractive to the eye. The cigar smells of earth and cocoa butter. Upon lightning I detect a floral scent and some zesty notes with hints of pepper here and there. The second third, a dash of citrus and spice with an increase of the cocoa butter/chocolate flavors make a great combination and create a more interesting smoking experience. Last third the sweetness is all gone and one can taste natural tobacco and some black pepper as predominant notes. Great burning with a gorgeous grey ash, excellent draw. Medium to medium plus on strength this cigar is a good addition to the Undercrown family and without hesitation I can say it’s my favorite of them all.
