The Davidoff Special 53 LE 2020 is a mild perfecto that is expertly hand crafted at the Cigars Davidoff factory in the Dominican Republic. Its inviting chocolatey Dominican wrapper, which has been aged for 10 years, covers an eight-year old San Vicente binder, and a filler composed of Dominican Olor, Piloto Ligero and San Vicente tobaccos. The Davidoff 53 LE 2020 has a naturally sweet profile that is highlighted with notes of spice. This a very limited-edition premium cigar, only 4,500 boxes of 10 cigars per box were made available in the United States.

While tobacco and cigars have always traditionally been produced in the Dominican Republic, many Cuban cigar makers established in the Dominican Republic after the Cuban communist revolution, elevating the quality of Dominican cigars.

  The main tobacco region in the Dominican Republic is the Cibao valley in the northern part of the island. In the 60s, Cuban seeds were brought here by exiled Cuban cigar makers and found that they grew exceptional cigar tobacco, called Piloto Cubano. The native Dominican tobacco, called Olor, is milder than Piloto Cubano yet more aromatic. The first company to grow Dominican tobacco for cigar wrapper was Tabacalera Arturo Fuente in 1995.

In the 60's, a Cuban seed was introduced and the resulting tobacco, called Piloto Cubano, became famous as a good substitute of the Cuban tobacco that was no longer allowed to enter the USA. Piloto Cubano is full bodied while the Dominican Olor tobacco is milder but more aromatic.
