James Hetfield the lead singer/songwriter for the heavy metal band Metallica is passionate about music, fine whiskey, and cigars. In 2018, Hetfield created Blackened Whiskey. James and Rob Dietrich, the brand’s distiller, enjoy cigars as much as they do whiskey. Soon they ran into cigar impresario Johnathan Drew. Two years later, they developed the Blackened M81 cigar. It is an all maduro blend that features a dark Mexican San Andres wrapper covering a Connecticut Broadleaf binder and a Nicaraguan and Pennsylvania Broadleaf filler. It’s like a greatest hits album made for maduro fans. This is a full-bodied smoke that offers deep, flavorful notes. The cigar is named after the song “Blackened,” which is on Metallica’s “...And Justice For All” album. The “M81”stands for Metallica and 1981 the year the band was formed.
