The Aksum line is the first time Foundation Cigars has developed a blend using Ecuadorian Sumatra tobacco. The cigars are handmade at AJ Fernandez’s factory in Nicaragua.

  According to legend, the Ark of the Covenant was laid to rest in the Aksumite Kingdom, which is part of an area now known as Ethiopia. The Ark was brought to the kingdom by Menelik the First. The Foundation Aksum Cigar was created to honor the Aksumite Kingdom. The cigar’s box and band features an image of Ras Makonnen who is considered one of Ethiopia’s greatest leaders. The Aksum Claro cigar features a light-tan Ecuadorian Sumatra-seed wrapper that drapes a USA Connecticut Broadleaf binder, and filler leaves from Esteli and Jalapa, which are two of Nicaragua’s top tobacco growing regions. This carefully selected three-nation blend offers a medium-strength smoking experience that’s rich in flavor. The cigars are handmade at AJ Fernandez’s Tabacalera Fernandez factory in Nicaragua.

Ecuador supplies Connecticut and Sumatra type wrappers to many cigar factory in the world.

  USA Connecticut Broadleaf tobacco is grown in the Connecticut River Valley area. The soil in this region is of glacial origins. The tobacco is dark, oily, flavorful, and aromatic. It is used primarily as a maduro wrapper, but it also serves as an excellent binder.
