  According to legend, the Ark of the Covenant was laid to rest in the Aksumite Kingdom, which is part of an area now known as Ethiopia. The Ark was brought to the kingdom by Menelik the First. The Foundation Aksum Cigar was created to honor the Aksumite Kingdom. The cigar’s box and band features an image of Ras Makonnen who is considered one of Ethiopia’s greatest leaders. The Aksum Maduro cigar features a dark Ecuadorian Sumatra-seed maduro wrapper draped over a USA Connecticut Broadleaf binder, and filler leaves from Esteli and Jalapa, which are two of Nicaragua’s top tobacco growing regions. This carefully selected three-nation blend offers a medium to full strength smoking indulgence with a bounty of flavorful notes. The cigars are handmade at AJ Fernandez’s Tabacalera Fernandez factory in Nicaragua.

The weather conditions, with a nearly permanent cloudy sky, provide a natural shade, protecting the wrapper plants from sunshine and allowing the tobacco to grow thin and light. Ecuador supplies Connecticut and Sumatra type wrappers to many cigar factory in the world.

  The binder is a full tobacco leaf that is used to roll the cigar, binding the filler tobaccos together. 
  USA Connecticut Broadleaf tobacco is grown in the Connecticut River Valley area. The soil in this region is of glacial origins. The tobacco is dark, oily, flavorful, and aromatic. It is used primarily as a maduro wrapper, but it also serves as an excellent binder.
